Been out there when it was 126F! Had to go upriver to cool off. This was when the channel was closed due to algae. Remember - A day at the lake, no matter what, is better than a day at work! :D

Yes, worry about Hydration, plenty of water, any type booze should be left for the cooler evening hours, and the sun will kill you at those temps....MP

Start hydrating yourself now and keep hydrating yourself all weekend. Waiting until the weekend won't help you.

OMG! that is up there, but I thought the temp on the water was different from on land. Or is it cause we sit in the water the entire time.
Precautions SUNSCREEN, apply and REAPPLY.

That is when you see the people in the channel pound beer all day and don't drink any water. Next thing you know they are passed out, sunburned and being taken away in an ambulance.
Remember "bimini's are cool" when it is THAT hot out. Take it easy, or you won't last three days in the sun.

Hydration is an excellent idea! But don't forget to EAT something also. My group all drank plenty of water one day in 118 heat and we all still got heat stroke. The doc told us that as we drank all that water (yes, just water that day  ), we lowered our electrolytes to dangerous levels because we diluted our systems. So...remember those Doritos! ;)

Sheesh, What about those drinks, ummm gatorade and those?
I know that if you drink gatorade after drinking it will prolong a hangover but what about keeping you hydrated?

Believe it or not Gatorade is bad for you because there is soo much sugar...
the best thing to cure heat stroke????
Pedialite... you know the stuff for babies? It replenishes your electrolites, and gets ya back on track!!

I have never heard that gatorade would prolong
the hangover. Why is this?
Hottest day on record... June 1994 at... 128
Hottest in US>. Death Valley at 134
I see the forcast only being a high of 114. The rest
lower.
Check out this site, kinda cool.

At Needles one year when it hit 128 and you felt that difference for sure from 105-110 temps. We had to stop every 10 minutes just to get in the water. Sucked...

I've heard that they've done research and beer actually replenishes more than Gatorade anyways, so lets have another beer.

I was their that 127 plus degree day. I recall my car outside temp reading at 123 going over the bridge and 128 at the launch ramp. It was like an oven and very humid. Just an inferno with few fools like me out on the water.
I had to go to the mouth of the river and jump in to cool off, the lake was useless as it too was maybe nearing 90 about that time. I still have the newspaper front page. It sucked.

I don't know about you, but I can definately tell the difference between 110 and 120 (+/-). From 110 and up, it feels like its going up by the square root, just like an earthquake; a 7 is 10 times worse than a 6.

Moneypitt
06-29-2005, 03:07 PM
isn't a 7 100 times worse than a 6?

Who remembers the rumors that the lake was gonna be closed because of sewage spill that weekend. That's when the high bacteria counts were happening on the state beach and Mudsharks.

waterwitch
06-29-2005, 04:06 PM
They still test the water due to that.
If the lake gets as warm as it was that
week, I'd stay out.
I remember seeing people swimming next to the
sewage spilled signs. Wasn't it over a holiday?

I am in the paving business been doing it for 20 years. asphalt temperature on the ground hits between 280 and 325 degrees. That's why I like havasu there are certain people who can hang with the heat. Just my luck I was born in to it 100 or whatever if its hot or not. Just relax.

burtandnancy
06-29-2005, 06:01 PM
moneypit, you may be right, but regardless, its still too hot. Under this formula, 6.1 would be 10 times greater than a 6.0, therefore 7.0 would be 100 times higher than 6.0.

Yes acutally, we have been out there, when it was 120, back in 1998 in July, just stay inside during the hottest part of the day (2:00pm to about 5:00 pm) and you should be good.
Have fun!!!
