Crawling Rock Spider is what they called it on Fear Factor. Make sure you hold the claws together when you put it in your mouth. Otherwise it might pinch you.

You're right. They aren't sun spiders.

It is called a Vinegarone, welcome to Arizona :mix: Non poision SOme call it a whipscorpian.Vinegarones look different -- they have the whip out back and look more like a regular scorpion, which is why they're also called whip scorpions. The thing pictured doesn't have the whip, which is why it's called a tail-less whip scorpion. :)

Tailless whip scorpion
This animal is related to spiders and scorpions, but it's really neither one. It hides in thin rock crevices by day and comes out at night to hunt, aided by its long, sensitive antennae. It has no venom and is harmless to humans.

I'm looking at a desert book on insects, plants and trees. The pic in the book is a dead-on match to the Vinegarone.
Let call it a crab-trantula-scorpion thingy soon to be stuck to my shoe bottom :D
