wow, quick to defend. just never heard about the airport community, so it is for the very well to do and not the public. no wonder all the bitterness from the common folk.

You and I have talked about the project on RRL haven't we? We the little people :D :D :D
.
The airport/runway was an original that McCullough put in to bring in prospective land buyers during the city's inception. Abandoned when they built the new airport at the north end of town.

yes ziggy we have and with good hearted, well spoken, well understood, and understanding folks. never heard about the airport, and as far as abandoned, is it still zoned for that or has it been taken from the faa lists or is it just not used? its hard to change an airports status to something else, so is it in the plans for the community or is it just unused flat land?????????something to think about, airport communities are going up all over the u.s.a. i'v looked into them, i would love to retire to one sooner than later

during World War II some were temporarily closed when the area was used for military test flights. On the peninsula, which is now the island that is connected to the rest of Lake Havasu City, by the London Bridge, a rest and recreation site was created for the military. There, primitive barracks were built near the airstrip (site 6), to house the weary servicemen that were flown in from Los Angeles.
When McCulloch first discovered Lake Havasu, the military had already abandoned the area.
:hammerhea
In case you REALLY dont know what this place started out as..... :hammerhea
Some time when your here go out to site 6 and READ the placque out there...
