Did you ever think that it would never happen to you? Me too. That is until last weekend, when I realized that I was short in the bank account. Long story short, I ordered new checks a few weeks ago, and they didn't make it to the house. Eventually looked at the bank account and found 'um. $2100 gone, in two days. Bummer. I will probably get some of it back, but the hassle is just now setting in and beginning to start. A friend (of a friend) is part of a management team at a home depot here, and was able to pull video tape of the cashier station where at least one check was cashed. Seen, but not identified. Somewhere in coonsville, there's a brotha that has a drivers license with a number from a dead lady in El Paso with his picture, and MY name.
A sure way to ensure this doesn't happen, have your new checks (when/if you order) sent to your bank. Keep 'um out of the US mail system.
Fock......

oh yes it happend to me too.. about 7 yrs ago, some how they got all my info
and I don't really watch my bank account that much, (everything is autodraft) so when a $1400 bill arrived from "SPRINT" for 6 cell phones, and I do not even own a cell phone, I knew I was in trouble, fortunately my San Diego bank was way cool, they took care of the whole thing and got it all back, including the 20 or so porn sites that they signed me up for.
the lesson I learned is SHREAD EVERTHING!!!!!!!! then burn it, also call all the credit agencies, equafax, trans union and experian and lock your accounts with a password, none of the three will issue credit to anyone for any reason with out that password.
and so far so good!!!!! even I have to jump through hoops to use my credit now.

Happened to me as well. I keep a close eye on the money in the bank via internet. Real time reporting with BOA. I also shred everything. I will never mail out anything from the house. Always from the post office. I still have things on my credit report becauce of it. I cant write a check at walmart because of it. What sucks is they will reinstate my check writing if I pay what is owed. I didnt do it so I aint payin it. It is not Walmart. It is the check recovery system. Doesnt really matter now, I use my card. Plus the bank pays me everytime I use it. Theives really piss me off.

A big pain in the a$$.I have had some ashole using my name to open cell phone accounts still dealing with one from last year the collection agengy is a bunch of ases. The local pd doesnt want to take a police report but yelling enough got it done(you need this to clear yourself) now i need to get a copy of a police report that basically got thrown in the trash so i can send it to the collection agency.
The main reason i dont order or shop off the interner.Oh btw this prob all started when my wife needed my social security number and wanted me to give it to her over a cell phone.(i told her wait til i get home for this reason she pissed me off so i gave it to her then said "you"ll see what this causes).Sure enough 6 months later it started.
yup woman can be dumb at times

23K in 7 days from the business account. Professional ring, used valid business checks from some other business then cashed checks on against our funds.
My wife was a 40 yr old black lady in Henderson LV. BOA refunded the cash in about 4 days.
The only reason they did not get more was the teller in newport called my wife and asked how was vegas, she was not in vegas.
Anyway, the lady bailed. We were lucky her ID were not real, but all fake including the platinum cc#'s. They did try to to open new CC#'s
Believe me it is very easy to pull it off....

My suggestion is to go to freecreditreport.com It costs $12.00 a month, it includes a $50k insurance policy against identity theft and whenever there is an inquiry against your credit report they immediately notify you.
Another thing to do is contact all three credit reporting agencies and have them put a fraud warning on your report. Put a home# or cell ph# that any time there is a new credit request that they need to verify it with you.

Good advise but don't have a credit warning put on your credit, but rather a "credit freeze" or "credit stop". With only a "watch" or "alert", a person can still get credit. With a "freeze" or "stop", no credit is allowed to be issued.

$12,000 worth of airplane tickets by Jasmine Duke and Sherietta Smith, I'd like to drown those two, flew around the country on my dime. B.O.A. fraud Dept. was cool about it. Took a load of paperwork to straighten out. Best I can figure, I bought some jewelry at Zales, and the gal had "trouble" with my card. I think that's where it started. Lesson learned? Use credit cards, not debit. That way at least you're not out of your personal account. Shred, burn, mail at the post office. ****in' scum bags, get a godamned job and work for it like I do. Thanks for the vent, after I get over it, maybe I'll change my name! Oh yeah, on my Edit, now all of my acounts are on Fraud alert, so I can't buy more than $100.00 worth of fuel at a time, on a card, and at $3.00 a gallon, I can't fill the Motor Home and Boat without going to 3 different stations. Now that's convienient! Have a great weekend!

Identity theft is kinda like death - you do what you can to prevent it, but truth is, no matter what you do, everybody is still vulnerable.
Mail theft, personnel file info theft, and the ever-present inside job. Just can't win.
Think I'll go lock myself in my room now. :hammer2: :hammer2:

I has hit 14 years ago, went to go buy a wedding ring, filled out an app.
But ended up paying cash!
It seems that the black bitch behind the counter recognized me.
She worked with my step-sister, she must of blabed her mouth about how well I did.
She gave all of my info to her Black boy-friend who went to HFC, Avco fiance & 2 others that I dont remember & got cash loans to the tune of $22k.
Then he rented a house in Riverside in my name, furnished it using my credit, & was driving a new mercedes & lexus, all in my name.
Can you imagine me getting a copy of my drivers licence, with all of my info, & his black face. Really pissed me off!
Took about 6 months of calling, fianally we figured it all out, & the SOB got 3 years for it.
Luckily it did not ruin my credit score!

Last week the power company showed up at my house, "here to turn off your power so you can move"... I aint movin?!?!
Turns out my bitter ex wife called and used my current wife's info including her social to put in the order. They recorded the whole conversation so I filed charges. She is out of state and she will be shocked when the grand jury summons arrives at her door. ID theft is a class 4 felony, I hope that bitch gets 5 yrs!!!!!!!
Spent three hours password protecting all of my accounts. :yuk:

Now that's what you call BUSTED!
If you get a lot of hang-ups or think she is harassing you over the phone (cell or landline), I have a new service which can help. If she is under any TRO's or other stay away court orders - it usually spells criminal charges. I'm also beta testing, costs are very minimal. PM me if interested.
I bet she was banking on you not being home when they arrived to turn the utilities off. DOH!

Damn this stuff sucks.I just got hit on friday, seems somebody in Japan has made a fake copy of my Visa/debit card and charged 5 seperate charges. My banks visa fraud department called and left a message on my answering machine but it ws late at night when I got it.I actually didnt think anything of it due to it sounding more like a solicitor's pitch then a valid message.Didnt find out until the next morning when my card wouldnt work, the bank put a freeze on it for me until the got in contact with me.My bank put a hold on the transactions until monday and I did get ahold of the fraud dept to take care of this.I should get all of the money back but it still sucks knowing that my card is here with me but somehow they can charged things.Almost 11k gone in one day.

Last year a couple in Florida went to buy three Sea Doo's with all her info. Luckily the sales person called my wife and verified that it was not he. He also called the cops and had the peeps picked up while still signing docs for their news "toys". Not sure if they did any time, thet should have hung them.
Unfortunately they had already spent about 5k with her info. Took countlees hous on the phone writing letters and phone calls to get it all cleared up. It seems as though this should not be that hard to stop. F'n thieves.

Whats scarry is that I dont use my debit card for much, and I have never bought anything from Japan with it,yet they still got my number and ran it 5 seperate times at 3 different places. So far the fraud dept says since this is a personal account and not a buisness account I should get all of the 11k back. The funds are still on hold until tomorrow but what Im afraid of is at mid night tonight they will release and the money will be gone. Then Im going to have to wait to get reimbursed is what Im thinking will happen.Ive been with my credit union for over 15yrs so they know me and my transactions well. The tight wad alarm must have went off when those people started hitting my card!So my bank called me right away.I told the fraud dept guy to find out who they are and I'll take it from there...LOL :crossx:
