Last week (on a weekday) we were at Laughlin and when we crossed over into Bullhead we took the time to do a quick head count of what was on the river as far as we could see :2purples: YIKES!!!! One old day cruzer type boat and 18 or so lake lice plus taxi's. Very sad to see how the lice have taken over this part of the river which used to be a great place to cruz! Can't something be done like SHOOT THEM!!!!:frown: NSF

I think all lakes that allow them, should have a designated area to operate in.

if there gonna be on the river, they should have their own section. Like a bike lane.

You must have been around Big Bend or the casinos. It IS lake lice hell around there, and that's why I never go up there. If you head downriver, it's alot better, especially about half way to Avi. best time on the river in BHC is Spring, and after Labor Day. Later in the year it's still in the low to mid 80s and you own the river.

Holly $H!!T…..it was psychotic!
I watched paramedics scoop up idiots every hour right in front of the Pioneer Casino…there is a little beach that can hold 2-4 families, there musta been 30 and all idiots…. :lightsabe
We went on the lake and ran the opposite direction of these idiots…no regard for personal safety or anyone else….the Sea Do boats are just as bad…

I think a lot of rental companies dump in near there which makes it even worse.
When those F__kers follow right behind you when you are on a morning ski run you just want to :eat: If they made them at least score a 90 on an IQ test that would keep 50% off the water.
They got them off a good part of Powell, it just takes someone to take it on. Jeez and I have been jet skiing since 1985 and I hate them....shit I'm old!

The biggest Problem with Lake Lice is they are normally first timers with little or no experence. My buddy was cut off on Saturday coming back from the sandbar. Some dumb SOB cuts 3' infront of his bow at 40 mph. My buddy chased him down and when he stood up the sea doo'er turned white (my buddy is 6'6 250 lbs), he was held back because he was about to jump off and pummle this idiot. We end up chasing the guy down again becasue my buddy was so pissed off just to let him know to never be on the water again. Guess what the dipshit had never been on a jet ski, what a suprise. They need to put a special limiter for newbies so it can't go over 35 mph or better yet make them sit and take a boat safety class.

From what I understand it is basically rental hell for PWC's or more to the point BOATERS HELL in that area of the river. Which brings back my thoughts on not a drivers license, but an up to date boating safety class certificate requirement for anyone operating any watercraft. Before you fly off the handle hear me out. Boaters (I would do it) would not mind taking a safety class because we love to boat and it is little sacrifice for the benefit gained. TO RENT ANY WATERCRAFT YOU MUST BE IN POSSESION OF AN UP TO DATE CERTIFICATE OR NO RENTAL PERIOD!!! This would stop the rental whims of quite a few people dont you think, at least it would be a start in controling these dangerous watercraft. This may be old but I just saw an ad for a 215 hp SEADOO ?????????????? how fast will they let them go and yet any idiot can jump on one and off you go. Its becoming more and more dangerous when ever they are operating in your vicinity because they act so unpredictably. RANT OVER :angry2: :D NSF

being a responsible lake lice owner, I can say from experience that yes, a majority of people on them are idiots, but then you see people like my mom and dad out cruising around on 2 of ours and realize they aren't all that bad.......I am very conscious about my surroundings and making sure I'm not doing something stupid in front of someone else. I think putting a clause like that would put rental companies completely out of business, which is not a good thing in my opinion......I know that for years we would rent jet skis because we weren't in a position to purchase them, and they provided a service that we were able to take advantage of.......I know a couple of lakes in my area outlaw them completely for Holiday weekends, which once again hacks me off. I paid good money for mine and my parents paid even more for theirs and we like to take them out, jack around a little bit, then put them back on the ramp. We maybe use them for 5 hours a weekend, but I would hate to thank what would happen if we couldn't use them at all, there's only so much of my dad I can take before my fiance and I have to get off the boat and go do our own thing for a little bit. I know I've gotten on a soap box here, but that's my .02........Everyone shouldn't be punished for the ignorance of a few.

Dude, I agree with you...all of that...believe me, I miss my early morning ski runs from Parker dam to Echo lodge and back. If I fall today chances are I will get run over by a jet skier trying to jump the ski boat wake. THey could all go the way of ATV 3-wheelers as far as I am concerned.

One of our fellow board members got plowed into last weekend by 3 young girls on a brand new wave runner.Didn't even have the az #'s yet. They ran into him after he tried to avoid them with several manuvers, they ended up busting up the side of his boat and smashing up thier brand new wave runner.
Give us some details 1Stepcloser. Anyone that knows him, knows he is a very responsible boater with probablly 20 yrs years of experience and to say the least takes excellent care of his boat.Anal may be a better word.Last i heard i think 2 of the girls went to the hospital and parents never stepped forward.Ski belonged to an uncle or someone.

Are you saying OneStep got hit? If so that really sucks for him.
I hate the jet skier's, 99% of them have no clue whats going on around them. I love my jet boat just for that reason:D

You Kow When These People Drive In A Car They Look Before They Change Lanes. So Why Is When They Get Out On The Lake With These Things They Totally Forget About Common Sense, And Looking Before They Turn. I Can Remember Countless Times When I Was Still Ski Racing Were I Would Go Practice Out At The River Or At Elsinore And They Would Turn Without Looking Or Try To Jump The Wake Of The Boat. Now My Ski Rope Is 200 Ft Back. From That Far Back I Can See There Look On There Face When They Finally See Me And They Are About To Get Close Lined Or Even Worse By My Ski Rope. I Have Actually Had To Throw The Handles A Couple Of Time Because They Do Not See Me. And Then They Get An Attitude With Me. One Time This Guy Almost Got My 88 Inch Race Ski Swung Up Side His Head.

So would a requirement of having to have a valid boating safety class cert work or not?? I dont really know but it couldnt hurt and it may curtail the rentals for the day of people that have no experience whatsoever. As far as turning in front of boats goes it is now just a given to expect it, happens at least once or twice a day when we boat and the worst spot is going up river where you dont have room to avoid them without just flat out powering down. Something has to be done, and now Havasu has another rental outfit right on the water at Windsor with all brand new fast ass little lice, just what we need. Just take the time someday and watch the rentals leave the floaters in Thompsons Bay and immediately get on plane, HELLO, why dont the asshole renters inform them its a no wake zone to the outer bouys, Maybe thier brains are scrambled from all the SMOKE the rentals emit, WHEW I'm getting all spooled up, sorry, but I really hate those friggin things NSF

"Forced" education, including license or whatever is the only way this problem will ever get better IMO. It is out of control and the rentals with no experience necessary just make it worse.
Without the education imposed on people they have no clue the rules of the waterways or how to operate the PWC or boat properly. People will continue to be hurt and killed until this happens. And the alcohol factor doesn't help either.

I have not heard from a single boat owner that is not willing to take a test to get a license in order to ensure that the lake lice drivers have one. Bottom line, you have to have a license for a car, truck, motorcycle and snowmobile, why don't you need one for a boat?
Yes, it would do damage to the rental industry, but it would not eliminate it. They would just have to adapt and some would close shop and sell their inventory.

It wouldnt hurt one bit if 1/2 of the rental places closed in Havasu, at least IMO. the G.D. pontoons are so friggin careless that I wont put my boat alongside them when they are launching or picking up! I'm all for getting something done to start the control of these so-called boats (PWC's) I read a report some years ago that stated (My figures may be a little off) then that PWC's represented like 15% of the boating population but yet they were involved in 80% of accidents and I'm sure this has gone up. How do we start some thing like licensing or certificates of safety cause it's scary out there and getting worse by the day. NSF

I too unfortunately fall under that 1% responsible lake lice population. I can tell ya that while on my pwc my head is on a swivel always aware of whats around me. If I'm coming up on ya and you got a skier in the water thats down I look behind me get waaaaaay outa your way raise my hand let you know I see you and your skier and wave as I pass on by. I try to hold my line and I dont even get close to your $$$$ boats. So please dont gimme the finger if ya see me in parker. or Laughlin.

I think a good start would be to ban on the water rentals period.. and impose a minimum distance, like adult stores have near schools.. No PWC rentals within so many miles of a ramp. This would cut down on alot of impulse renting from people out at the beach for the day and also would elminate most of the hourly rental. Which I'm sure is where most of the inexperianced careless riders come from. Make them rent for a day, require a instructional class giving at the time they pick up the pwc and I'd think you'd see a change in both the amount of PWC's on the water and caliber of rider on them.

Just to throw some 110LL on the fire..............
Here's some interesting Stats on PWC accidents.:
http://www.ridetechnology.com/accident.html
70% of PWC accidents are collisions and 70% of these are collisions with other PWC. In other words, half (49%) of all PWC accidents are collisions with other PWC.
PWC represent around 7% of registered vessels, but account for 35% of all boating accidents.
exposure rate for non-fatal PWC accidents is 6.5 times higher than for traditional recreational powerboats.
PWC operators were 8.5 times more likely to be injured than persons in power boats.
Orlando, Florida area only 8% of all non-fatal PWC accidents requiring hospital treatment were reported to state authorities. This means that there are 12.5 times more PWC accidents occurring than are reported
Florida 2001 :
309 accidents,
121 careless/reckless
46 Off-throttle steering failure
37 inexperience
24 Inatention
23 no lookout
17 excess speed
11 Nav rule violation
10 Alcohol
