Just got off the phone with the Nevada Department of Fish and Game. I had to ask them about changing my CA registration to NV. She answered my questions and told me that since the NV registration is based on the calendar year, I may as well wait until January and register it then or I will pay the NV fees twice - once now and again in January.
But, the whole purpose of doing this is to avoid the CA B.S. tax....I mean luxury tax. I purchased my boat in May and can register it as soon as August 19. Does anybody happen to know how long your boat has to be registered in CA before they decide you are liable for the tax? I don't know if there is a period of time it remains registered or if there is an assessment period duing the year or what. If there is a length of time, it might be one day or it might be six months. Who knows this one?
