I want to buy a new 4x4 diesel truck, chevy or ford, but I have a 2002 tahoe that I have to get rid of. It is a 5 yr. lease, the payoff is $27000. How do I get rid of it without being upside down on payments?

Sell it for what you owe.
Have somebody take over the payments.
Burn it and collect the insurance money.
Drive to Mexico and accidentally leave the keys in it.
I think you're screwed. :D

Funny you say take to Mexico. My bro's 2004 duramax was stolen out in front of our house. It probably is in Mexico!!

These employee discounts must be killing the used truck market...who is going to buy a used truck for more than what you can buy a new one for?

A chevy dealer told me they were going to give me $18700 for my 2002 tahoe. The high end blue book is $28000, and the low end is $22500.

You don't. You would have to hang on to it for another year or so. At the two year mark, I usually start adding $100 or $200 to the payment, so by the 3 or 4 year mark, I am looking much better.
The emp discount puts a new tahoe at about what you owe. Why would someone buy your used one, when they could have a brand-new one?

Jay, I may be needing that Tahoe after all in another month or so. This time it will be check-in-hand and we'll pull the trigger. Just hafta wait for the house to sell. Any idea how much longer you'll have Tahoe's in stock (05's) for the employee discount?
