I think I lost a lobe on my cam. Im gonna tear it down tomorow at charlies house. I Have cam walk right now. The cam is moving enough to hit the cover. I replaced the Chain last Thursday Before the run so we could go but it didnt fix it I did find my fuel pressure was 66 not the 43 it should be and that someone had removed my nock sensor. Hopefully when everything is right I will get a few more mph. As long as my wife lets me use the afterburners.

Jury is still out on what the upgraded engine will do this year. First step is break in easy then start prop testing. My data shows I should see upper 60's. Time will tell...

Let me say it this way...I'd rather the engine be turning 4,000rpm or less if I found out I didn't get something installed correctly!
2 hrs break-in then I'll put the sticks full forward to see how it does!

Ok I did loose a cam I had a few bent push rods and some of my lifters were worn so bad they were a 1/8th shorter than the rest. so Now its time for a full rebuild. I know all of that metal went through my motor so I will replace all of the bearings and shit. When we pulled it down we were amazed the thing ever ran. I am thinking we might be seeing mid 80s soon that will be nice.
And it will give me a few days to scrub my motor compartment wich will be nice since the guy bf me never touched it.

Do you mean you think it a 100 hp differance between the 2 pulleys? That seems hard to beleive.

HTRDLNCN
05-08-2006, 07:25 PM
(very) rough rule of thumb for every 1psi increase around 10-20hp depending on many factors(size, fuel, compresion, charge temps, altitude, timing, etc, etc).
100hp from 2.5psi sounds a bit out of range..
however 10mph from both 2.5psi and a prop change might be possible.

FASTERDAMITT
05-08-2006, 09:27 PM
The HP may be an over estimated guess but I did get 10mph with a prop change. That relates to big HP change. Could have been the sweet spot for the hull lift on my cat.

Went to desert storm and boat motors had 30 minutes and had pinging bad after 30min. @4,000rpms gps 53mph. before motor rebuilds max throttle 5,100 rpms on gps 62mph. going to change roller rockers out and then hammer down, if blows up would rather have happen now than a month or two latter of easy driving.I forgot to mention the twins are small blocks BIG JOE

BIGJOEDUCKSLAYER
05-09-2006, 10:51 AM
Went from 79cc to 64cc, total timing 32 @4500rpms it sounded like only one cylinder pinging also. slowed down to 3200 rpms and ping went away. still have fuel from last in 91oct.Last time I had boat out was in november 05. I hope it was cause new motors and still very tight? I have not ran since been back from desert storm. Going to try this weekend. BIG JOE

HTRDLNCN

With a smaller chamber youll have higher compression.. Id back the timing off till she stops pinging ,then break motors in then see what she does before you start swapping parts.

With retrofit lifters...it's only a couple hundred bucks more. The rollers mean less wear, and the steeper ramps mean more power with the same lift.

The retrofit lifters are linked together so you don't need the square lifter bores. Summit sells the Comp Cam retrofit kits for about $700. How much is a flat tappet cam and lifters costing you? $200?
IMHO...well worth the extra $500 (if you're keeping the boat), but it's your money.

86.8 mph on GPS in a open bow 25 foot nordic rage with a lab finished 28" prop. gas tanks were 2/3 full and we had about 250 lbs of gear on the boat. i weigh 205 lbs and my wife weighs 110 lbs. with a lighter load i probably could have hit 89 mph. i don't have trim tabs and need them. i am still using the stock iron heads on my built 496 engine. once somebody other than raylar comes out with a aluminum head such as brodix or dart then i will get aluminum heads and change my stock exhaust manifiolds out for some imco powerflows. this will kick in close to another 75 horsepower or so at the same boost level that i am runnin now which is 6.5 psi. this will also offset the weight increase that the trim tabs willl add to the back of my boat. with this setup and a lab finished 29" prop i should be able to go 92 mph with a light load in the boat. the whipplecharger supercharger and the imco dual ram hydraulic steering added alot of weight to the back of my boat and i don't want to add trim tabs to the back of my boat until i can offset the weight increase with a good aluminum head.

2002 35 Nordic Flame, stock 496HOs right at 80 (79.9) at Desert Storm with 4 adults and full tanks (180 gallons). Labbed 30s.
2002 28 Heat with R-Tech supercharged 548ci. 97-97.1 on recall 3X all over the 6000rpm rev limiter with a lab 32. Could not find a stock 32 anywhere in Havasu to break the 100mph mark which I'm thinking it will do with ease. (also at Desert Storm)

I drive/own the stock one (Flame) but I built the other one. The 28 is much more fun to drive and is surprisingly perfectly stable.
Grunion, looks like your ready to have some fun :)
Fasterdamitt, I set it up 8.5:1 and we are running ~7-8lbs per the gauge. I was not able to get a data log on that trip (busy driving mine :) )and we boat at 5000 feet here at home so a log here would not be representative of there.

Extreme Marine Az

I'll know in the morning, it looks like it all came out near the oil filter/mount/oil lines area which is right near the acc. belt so its a mess. all I can say is I'm glad it happened here instead of on vacation. Think the motors hurt?? 5000 rpm at load,,hmmmmm yeah its toast

Grunion,
At 5000 feet our fuel usage indicates approximately 825+ so if you add in the altitude drop you can factor in about an additional 18% to that number.

Loose oil filter, about 2 oz's of oil in pan when I drained it out, was in guardian mode for 10 seconds and then shut down motor. good oil pressure {70lbs cold} after we put in new oil and filter Merc says run it and see what happens, we'll see,, in regards to Extreme Marine, I was going to buy it but things didn't work out

No we havent really taken it past half throttle. It seems real strong tho. I am going to run a few tanks through it before we really get on it. Charlie also put the smaller pulley on my blower, so I doubled the boost. I will let you know but it will be a while. I am also going to let Charlie Hook up the computer to it one more time to make sure everything is good.

Hey Chris- Haven't talked to you in a while. We put a 28P prop on our boat and the rpms were way too high and it didn't improve acceleration so we went back to the 30P. Took it to 82 at Pyramid with the 28P at 94*, but still babying it becuase we're still unsure of the handling. But so far so good. Glad to see your boat is still running good. 85 at Havasu with the open bow is pretty damn good.
