I just called the Fast Trak folks and they assured me that pulling a boat in the Fast Trak lane was perfectly okay. Has anyone done this?

How are you supposed to get into the fast track with out crossing the fast lane, which is illegal in itself?

A friend of mine tows on the Toll Road from Rancho Santa Margarita to the 91 and I know that is allowed, you just have to go through the booths to pay the extra price becuase of the extra axles. Not suppose to just go through.

13. Can I tow my trailer or boat on the 91 Express Lanes?
Unfortunately, no. As with larger trucks, California law limits vehicles towing trailers to the right two lanes of a four-lane limited-access highway such as the 91 freeway. Therefore, vehicles towing trailers may not use the 91 Express Lanes.

They used to have asign that said something about towing a boat in there as a benefit. But EVERY time I have seen a boat in there. The person was pulled over by the CHP. Try it and tell us how it went.

Ditto this...they want to get your extra axles, so you have to go through the booth so they can charge you double.... :boxingguy :boxingguy

That is what I thought. Mother f'ers down there told me I could tow in the 91 fast trak lane. I did give them my trailer license plate number and went through the toll road lanes on the 73 toll, but I am more interested in the 91 lanes.
Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have for the last 5 years towed my boat on the 241 and NEVER stop at the toll booths and to date it has never been an issue. I am billed the additional charge each month via my fast pass. I live in Coto de Caza and have to go the entire lenght of the 241 with zero problems. So for whatever it is worth you may save sometime blowing off the toll booths.

That explains all the funny looks I was getting over the 4th of July. :D :D :D

When I picked up my boat from Ultra I towed home on the toll roads and had to pay for the extra axles through the toll booth. FastTrack is probably a different story though. Since they are a private company they probably allow it so that way they can get your money. However mister CHP will see it as you not being in the far right two lanes and give you a ticket.

If they told you you can tow on the 91 in the express lanes, get it in writing on fasttrak letterhead and keep in in your truck..........when you get pulled over show the letter to the chp..........
if you get a ticket go after fastrak to pay for it.
Its called CYA Cover your ass

i was pulling a trailer on the 91 fast track last year and got pulled over half way through. chp told me (no tickie) that you can pull in fast track because trailers need to stay in the right two lanes and can't go faster than 55mph. there is a sign just before you get on.

LOL ... when has it stopped anyone from pulling a trailer in the number 1 or 2 lanes (on a 4 lane higway). Geez ... they do it all the time! JK .... I know it's illegal.

You are only required to use the booth on Windy Ridge due to a problem which eventually resulted in a fatal accident :frown: You will get dinged for the extra axles even in the FasTrak lanes of the 73, 133, 261, and 241. The 91 is totally separate and I don't know their policy.

You can get a ticket at Windy Ridge (top of the grade before the 91). Be careful!

I go that route all the time and I DO use the non-stop fast-trak and have never been hassled. They always deduct the extra money for the extra two axles

That is wrong, and I'm sure a cop will come on and say so. There's exceptions for changing lanes, there has to be. There's many freeway junctions that force you to exit in the left or two left most lanes. Are you telling me that you can't change lanes into the left lanes to exit onto another freeway?
As for the 91, NO WAY!
Can't explain about the others, my assumptions would say the same though.

The 91 says specifically no, but I'm talking about in general, there has to be occasions when it's OK to tow in the two left lanes.
of course there is, when making a legal left turn.....

Kilrtoy
08-13-2005, 11:10 PM
Well, then you've just proven my point. It is OK to use the two left lanes of the freeway when you are making a legal manuever. So, if it were OK to tow on the 91 Fast Trak, it would be OK to change lanes across the two left lanes to get there.
NOPE, FAST TRAC , HOV same thing... Some freeway have exits in the center of the highway, in that case you can do such a movement.......
