Hi,
I was at Ultra in Corona last week and am looking at a 24 Stealth (but cannot find a used one in my area) but found this 2004 23xs with custom $2500 stereo, 496HO, All Dana hardware including the engine hinges, battery box and seat frames and it has 28 hours and is in PERFECT condition. The guy is asking $54k or it and I saw it yesterday but have not driven it yet. I like blue color better but I think this is a nice boat?
What do you think about the boat, the deal, and the graphics?

That's a decent price. I bet you still save several grand when you consider all the hardware you mentioned. The sound system also. I'd do it. The graphics are tits.

30 hours is the standard break in time for a motor so if he drove it easy you should be all ready to go. Boat looks nice!

I would be curious about the hours. Our hour meter said 60 but our motor clock said 124 so maybe find a dealer that can hook it to the computer and get the actual motor hours. Just a thought, but it is a nice boat. Offer him 50,000 even.

That usually means the hours are being recorded for palying the radio. Do you have an accessory in the ignition?

Funny story to back this suggestion up.
One of my crew turned the key on to play the stereo while wiping down. First of all, the key doesn't need to be on, just the STEREO switch. Anyway, I park the boat, cover it, plug in the battery charger. The charger comes on for 15 minutes every morning. Next time I get in the boat, I notice the key one. I look at the hour meter and it says 247. It used to read 180. That was the moment I figured out that the hr meter was hooked to ign instead of grounded by an oil pressure switch as normal. Anyway, the computer says 160 hours, so I will straighten it out one of these days. When I do, I will hook it up normal.

Personally, I love the colors! How can you go wrong with red? Get it as low as you can, you will be paying sales tax on a CA boat. Still, it will be thousands cheaper than brand new, and it already has an upgraded stereo.

That's a great looking Ultra. That seems to priced about right but I'd still see if he would take a little less. The 24 Stealth has more room but since you have priced new ones, you know what they cost. My guess is probably about $10k more than this guy is asking for his 23XS. Those colors will never go out of style. Don't worry what we think of the graphics. As long as you like them, that is all that should matter. If you like it, jump on it!

I have a 03' 23xs and love it.
Does everything great. You will be impressed by this boats handling.
And with that motor, it shold be good for low 70`s. :D

If Ultra wired the stereo, and there are two batteries, they hard wire the stereo into one of the batteries, so the stereo doesn't require the key to be on, and overuse of the stereo only runs down one of the batteries. Look to see how it's wired.
That is pretty low hours for one year - I did 90 since last June....

I think their are too many variables with custom boats for the nada guides to be accurate. I think they are better for production boats and such.

Thats a great deal I would jump all over it..30hrs may seem low, but if the guy is like me, that sounds about right. My boat is on our 4th season and it only has 130hrs on it. Maybe the guy just didnt use it much. Any case that is a nice rig for sure..

Call Renegade Boats in Anaheim. They have that exact hull and can do it with the 496 HO brand new for round that price, if not less. Plus you can get the gel you want. Talk to Ron the owner, he is a great guy.

All new Ultra's are built by and rigged by Ultra in San Diego. With that hull there is a possibility it was rigged and sold by a bare hull dealer. I personally would find out if it was done in San Diego or not. If not then I would stay away. If it was then that is a sweet deal if you like that hull.

To put it simply... There is a reason that John West does not do business with these folks anymore and wants all his boats done there in San Diego so that every boat comes out top notch. Take two Ultra's one rigged in San Diego and one rigged at one of these dealers and you will see a difference in quality and workmanship. Fortunately all Ultra's are done in San Diego now. Get the HIN and call Ultra with it and they will tell you the history on it.

I would check Eliminators USED boat section.. there are ALOT there, very decent priced. There is one in particular.... our old one... (sorry)... but they want alot for it, but if I tell them I sent you, you'd get a waaay better deal for it!! I happen to know there is a Sony Stereo System in there, and dual batts, and it has a 496MAG in it. Fast & Fun!!
Its a 2003 22' Eagle, total length is actually 22' 11". So its a good size!!
Let me know if your interested!! If you find anything on that used section you like let me know... I can hook you up with a guy there that will give you the best deal in town!! ;)

I made the same move up, the difference is off the scale.
In the typical Havasu chop I could get maybe 25 to 30 mph out of our little boat with out roughing up my passengers. With the 23xs 45 is now a good cruising speed ( 45 was max speed in the old boat ) and blast up to the 65mph with out too much drama.

If you look at the specs on jet powered boats, even 21' is inefficient. Any bigger and it starts to get exponentially worse.
If you look at the 4000 rpm cruise speeds, it is hard to find anything stock-powered with an outdrive running less than 48-50 mph. Usually 52-58 or so.
A 21' production custom with jet will commonly be running 35-38 at the same rpm. A 23' would be worse.

Thanks. One of these weekends when were not at the river we need to stop by and buy the little family matching Ultra clothes. John sent the baby a onsie and bib when he was born and it is too cool! I'm sure Bob's got his little one in the stuff all the time.
Jason come on down we would love to see the little one. If you don`t want to make the trip give me a call and Holly can ship some cloths to you.
