Ok, I've seen some boats with monster stereos and a generator on board.
Is the generator used to power up a 110v battery charger?
Is there some sort of 12v output the can be connected to the batteries?
I'm considering expanding my stereo system and have room for a small generator, just not sure how it all hooks up.
Also, Reverse spam. Looking for:
1 - JL Audio 300/4
1 - JL Audio 500/1
6 -Infinity 6x9 (Reference Series, 9603i)
Any connections out there?

PM Boatfloating or MBrown2,either of the two of these guys can give you the details of how to set it up.They both run generators and i belive are happy with them.

You do not need a generator if it is just for the sound system, If you do not have dual batteries yet, then get another batterie and interlink it with your main batterie so it gets charged from the altenator. This will work fine depending on how long you plan on blasting the radio without running or starting the engine. Oh and make sure you are using optima batteries they are the best.

To answer your question, you don't run batteries. You run the generator to a HIGH QUALITY power inverter that converts the 110v to 12VDC. The whole setup should run you about $1500-2000, depending on the inverter you use.
Ding,Ding,Ding....we have a winner...

I have a Honda eu3000 under the helm running a 90amp charger/inverter, two marine batteries and one 8D battery.
I dont have to run the generator unless I am playing the stereo pretty hard for a couple hours.
Seeing your name is Partycattin, Im assuming you have a partycat. A generator will fit nicely under your helm.

Two Oddyssey 1200's, 3100 Watts, Cascade 90 Amp (w/smart charger built in) and it does run through the batteries. At night, plug the smart charge data cord in and the Cascade goes through it's 3 stage charge routine...during the day or when in use as a power inverter, I leave the data unplugged and get 90amps to run the system via the 110 from the EU2000.

Great topic. Help me understand the reason for a power inverter? I was thinking about getting a setup like this. But, I was thinking all you needed to do was get a generator, and when youre pumpin your system and the batteries get low, just fire up the generator to a battery charger and viola!, constant power. Obviously from this thread, I am on the wrong path. Learn me!

He said Monster Stereo. In my previous boat, I could drain (3) Yellow Top Optimas and (3) Odyssey 1700s in about six hours.
6, 6X9's and 1 woofer a Monster stereo system ????

Batteries don't like to be charged on demand. Also, with a big system, you can't possibly charge the batteries as fast as you take them down. Lastly, your solution is unelegant, like a pig with earrings. Maybe you could find a way to sneak a couple 12V cigarette lighter adapters into the equation. ;)
Alright Shockwave....me & you hav been scrappin like a couple of brothers. LMAO! When we throwin back a case or two???? Dont even tell me you quit drinkin either! :boxed:
BTW: Im foregoing all this nonsense about batteries & gene's, its all Hogwash! Im pickin me up a FluxCapacitor......

Thanks for the info.
I just installed a 3rd battery but they are not charging well. My amp guage keeps jumping from 9 to 12, but then the boat will be hard to turn over. Not sure if its an alternator problem or battery related.
I currently have 6 6x9's and a 10" Jl woofer running on 2 JL 300/4 amps. Throw in the kids using the blender, cd changer etc and playing the stereo loud and the batteries drain pretty fast.
I'm going to add 6 more 6x9's and the 2 additional JL amps. May not be a monster system yet, but it will likely continue to grow.
The FluxCapacitor is a great idea! I'll have to pick one up.

My husband did the 3000 watt generator, and a 90 amp power supply all for under a $1000 bucks......And I might add it is one of the quietest generator in the industry. You can be standing right next to it and carry a conversation without having to raise your voice.

$100? What is it a hampster on an hampster wheel with a 9volt strapped to its back....
That is a pretty good deal on what would normally be a 800-1000 genny and 300ish Power supply...:)

Come on dude!!! You have no Idea what you are talking about.
You can't get that many watts with the battery on its back.
You have to stick it up his a$$!!

I would never use hampster. Also, I would never use stick it up his a$$ in the same sentence....Dick Gear lost a couple movie deals over something along those lines.. ;)
