James Jinks, 44, of Seattle Washington died on Sunday of massive head injuries suffered when testing a boat for a customer.
At approxamately 11:20 am, Jinks left Greys Harbor to do a short test with the newly repowered 38ft offshore speedboat. Witnesses say that Jinks was traveling about 85 MPH when a "puff" of smoke came from the back of the boat and turned to the right, throwing Jinks against the opposite side of the boat. Dave Markel was the first to arrive and said Jinks was bleading from the nose and ears, but was not breathing. All attempts to revive Jinks failed and he was pronounced dead at 12:17pm.
I have known James for 17 years, and he was a safety freak. If he was testing a boat over 70 MPH, he would wear a helmet and crash vest. The one time he didn't wear his gear, cost him his life.
Think about it.
James left behind his 6 month old son Julian, 12 year old Daughter Janice and his high school sweetheart, wife of 19 years, Beth.

Safety should allways be a concern, especially when it comes to new boats & motors & speed!
Condolences to the family.

I got a call from my mom today. James suffered a broken neck, whats called a base fracture? He died instantly as my mom was told. Sad for sure and I do thank everyone for their condolences and prayers.
Thank you,
Snake

Very sad news. Especially when it involves a fellow boater .... doing what we all love. Running boats. My best to his family!!!
