O.k. I need advice.....
How do you smuggle alcohol on a cruise ship without getting caught??? :2purples:
Do they search your luggage? would volka in water bottles work?
Never been on a cruise, but I hear the drinks aren't free so if we can defer some of the costs that would be great! :hammerhea

Are you saying they don't search your bags? Seems like they would so terrorist can't bring bombs or guns on board. Again, I've never been on a cruise.

I've only heard this second hand but I read that if you have bottles in your luggage, if they find them (I guess they get checked in like planes?) they will break them open in your luggage so now you are w/o booze and that cool silk shirt is covered in Jaegermeister.
May or may not be true...

I tried that. But don't make the mistake I made and label those water bottles "KETTLE ONE" with a sharpie. BTW.... did I ever pay you for that detail?

John,
Here's first hand experience for what it's worth. My wife and I went on a cruise on our honeymoom. Only thing is that We were on our honeymoon and Sept. 11th happened on Tuesday. I wrapped up alcohol bottles and put them in a waterproof backpack in case of breakage and put them in my luggage. You can only do it with the luggage that you leave for them to take to your room. Anything carry on they check and will keep your booze until the trip is ended. Even when you make your stops along the way they check to see what your bringing on. We carried on cases of soda and big things of water. They just want to make a buttload of money on selling you booze plus I think there are laws. From what I understand it's still the same. Just put it in your big luggage you don't carry on. They won't look in it. At most they'll put it through the machines like at the airport. Then is what you do is buy one drink by the pool in a big plastic glass and you can keep refilling it for free with your stuff and no one says anything.

I just went on one a few months ago Catalina-encenada(sp) I took a large water bottke and filled it up with kettle one. The bottle help a 750 ml perfect. The lady screener did notice that the bottle was opened but full. I said we both know how nasty the water is on the ship so I brought my own. I had 1 bottle of kettle one and the rest actual water. Worked great. All they have to mix with is watered down lemonade and really thats it. OJ was an item you had to buy with a SODA card. I mainly used it straight up for a martini.

On our last royal carriabean cruise I bought a bottle of absolute in the ship store and gave the kid $10 to take it with me in a bag. Next time i'll fill a big aquafina bottle with clear booze.

Can't you buy big bottles on board, duty free? I haven't been on a cruise in a LONG time, but they always had duty free shops at every stop that had killer duty free deals on alcohol? Is that not the case anymore??

Yes but they just hold it for you until the end of the cruise so you can't consume it on board. That's why it was stated earlier that someone bought one and paid the dude 10 bucks to let him take it with him right then.

Actually it's my son who is going on the cruise with my Daughter and ex-husband to celebrate his 60th B-day.
My Son asked me the question and I thought I would see if anyone had any first hand knowledge.

If it hasn't already been said....
Pour the booze into water bottles and carry them right on with you.
My g/f and I each took (2) 1litre bottles filled with vodka and rum onto a Carnival ship recently, and even the bottle of jack in my suitcase made it! They are just trying to scare people into not bringing anything onboard.

Put your bottles of alcohol in a pair of boots because you dont hear the bottles clanking never had a problem. Yet and we been on about 12 cruises.

If you're not blatant about it (like trying to take a keg on board). There is no problem. We took a couple bottles of pre-made margaritas in our luggage for a Carnival cruise and had it sitting out on the counter the whole time with no problem. The drinks at the Bars on the ship are about the same as any Bar. I think a domestic beer was about $2.75 and a mixed drink was about $4.00.

I've been in several cruises...Here is what I have done...On Royal Car. I put 2 18 packs of bud light into a suit case and had it checked outside with the porters...They don't scan those suit cases, I had budlights for about 2 days and saved about 200 bucks. They are loaded in a big cart and rolled in to the ship. I have the water bottle thing and it works...No problem. You are allowed to take two bottles of wine per person...Do. They'll charge you a corking fee but most of the time, they will let it go. Either carry the booze in water bottle or leave it in the luggage with the other million suitcases being wheeled around.

Just step up on go a Raddisson cruise. When you go to your room they ask you what you and the Mrs drink and they bring you each a big bottle each and every day they bring you mixes for your drink.
But if you go on Carnival, I don't think you will step up that much.

It will be very difficult to smuggle any alcohol on a cruise ship, but when you are in each port each person is usually allowed to buy some alcohol while in port and return to the ship with it. Ex. If the cruise was in the carribean, rum is a major export so you would be allowed to return to the ship with a bottle of rum.

As others have said, it's easy to smuggle it in on your checked luggage at your port of departure. At the ports of call, any liquor bought ashore is confiscated when you reboard and held for you until the end of the cruise.

I have not had that prob. When I was in the Carribean they allowed us to board with a bottle of rum.

Maybe it was a smaller one with relaxed rules. On the big cruise lines, when you reboard your carry on stuff goes through an airport style X-ray machine and all liquor is confiscated and held for you until the end of the cruise.

My two trips on RoyCar went just like Bear Down and Little Rowe Boat said..
First trip, brought nothing with me. Bought Absolut in the duty free shop on board, it "will be returned to you when we arrive in LA". Went shopping in Ensenada (BTW, Gigante does not necessarily have the best price in town). All that Vitamin T and Kahlua was held hostage. Then I was over the limit, so
I got to go to Customs. For being honest, I guess, Customs waived the extra
charge...
Second trip, bought 1 champagne for "Bon Voyage" and a good bottle of red for dinner one night. No hassles about the champagne, the cabin steward iced it for us. Bought wine from the wine steward every night at dinner, so when I asked if I could bring mine one night, I don't think they even charged me corkage. Of course, I offered them a glass...
My take - it's kind of like going to the movies... The room and food are relatively inexpensive, and they make their $$$ on the booze and casino (and bingo (lol). Like the popcorn and soda at your local theatre...
