How about the fact that the United States sends trillions to help other countries when the have disasters, but where are those contries when we need help?!!!
So, we as tax payers, pay to help other countries and we pay to help our selves, which I don't have a problem with.
If other countries don't help us, we don't help them, PERIOD!!!
Just my 2 cents.

You are correct. If we just up and left, we could take care of our own....but since when has that been the object of our governments expenditures? Think about all of the US government expenditures abroad, and now think about all of the infrastructure that could have been built here in the good old U. S. of A. with that same amount of money....staggering isn't it.

I want to thank you guys for your service. Now, you can't say the war has anything to do w/ the weather. We do need to spend more cash on taking care of our own, but we alson need to make sure some Terrorist bastard can't get his hand on weponds (sp) that can destroy all we've worked for in the past 229 years. I'm sorry. I'm kind of torn on this toppic in that we do need to get rid of all the mistakes of the world(ie. I understand your frustration with the destruction and devastation caused by hurricane Katrina. But your anger is misguided.
This country will step up and do the right thing for its citizens - it always has and always will. We citizens need to step up too and help each other out.
While we're whining, I'd like to see the government spend billions on alternative energy sources. Instead of going to Mars but just like President Kennedy's decision to fund putting a man on the moon, this country would benefit in unbelievable ways if it would invest in our future by funding a massive program to develop alternative energy. We'd all win by the jobs created, the results would significantly lessen pollution and our dependence on oil for vehicles and heating. It's a win-win. Hello, Washington? Any visionaries left or are you all listening to the lobbyists? :220v:

I don't think anybody's blaming the Hurricane on the war or President Bush (although, frankly, I'm convinced he's involved somehow :D). I think people are aggravated that the money we're spending on this war could be better used at home. People are complaining about illegal aliens, the cost of pears, sending $100M to East Bum****agolia, but we've spent almost $200B on a war that a lot of people certainly don't support. I'm all for going to other countries and just killing people, but $200B is a lot of money.

I think this has alot to do with WHAT IS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS JOB?? I say their job is to protect the soveregnty of our nation. To create and sustain an atmosphere whereby we can live with liberty etc.....
It's not their job to pay for our healthcare and to provide for us....that's OUR job. That's why the "we could use the Iraq War money better" arguement doesn't hold up. IT's apples and oranges here.

Well, since you said "Next", I guess the discussion's over.
In it's most basic form, a government's job is to execute their authority at the will of it's constituents. There's a lot of constituents that don't agree with how that is being done right now.
By "next" I meant next opinion please.....
I'm just saying that to imply that the money spent in Iraq could be better utilized here at home is rediculous. That's not what the money is for. It's not like the money came out of the "pay for healcare" fund or the "pay for an natural disaster" fund.....that's all I'm saying.

It does, in fact, make me an expert on war, which is what this discussion is about.
Really? the discussion is about the strategies of war? Well then, let me whip out my "Art of War" and "Lanchester Theory" books, although "Lanchester Theory" does not fully apply, since it heavily relies on air combat superiority...superiority that dominates the war (while we have that superiority, it is not able to dominate).

But, I am invested in this country by owning my own business and support our military. I definitely won't tell them how to fight the war, but I understand more about why were are there than probably 95% of the military personel. I probably could'nt have said that 20 years ago. I use economics, politics, and stategies in my business every day. Except without all the dying and shit.
My wife would disagree. While physical death is not usually part of business (Cole boats comes to mind), risking financial devastation can be much more destructive. We came on the ragged edge earlier this year. I had to do a hostile takeover of my business away from my partner who crawled into the fetal position and was crying like a little girly man about not being able to provide for his family....this guy was in the marines and got weak in the knees at the first sign of financial trouble. Fianancial devastation can and does have far reaching consequences...ever see the suicides on Wall Street during crashes?
Don't worry, luckily for people like me, we provide the neccesary profits (not just revenue) that pays for the military...and it is worth every penny.
