I was looking at my manual in my work truck and it states that with a conventional trailer and a Class IV hitch, I can tow a trailer with a max weight of 10,000 lbs. Does this sound right? I cant put a fifth wheel on there, nor will I.
BTW, I have 3.73 gears and a 7.3 PSD, extra cab, short bed.

I have a 2005 F-250 and the GTW is 17,000lbs. I have the 6.0 turbo diesel.

Mine is a 2001. 17,000 is a big load. My issue is that if I am towing something that is actually over the specified weight and I get in an accident and hurt or kill somebody, then I am totally screwed. I cant help but think that the specs in my manual are correct. Also, my truck has a GCWR of 20,000 and a GVWR of 8800 so theoretically and can tow 11,200 lbs but only with a fifth wheel.

Its actually 16,500lbs. I do have the electric brake controler. I know people that tow their fifth wheelers with these trucks and have no issues. Another friend tows his huge trailer with a bob cat and backhoe on it with no issues. Only do what you feel safe. You are the driving not us. Good luck

Well folks, just to let you know I talked to Ford. They confirmed what I said earlier. That is, the F250 has a MAX trailer weight (conventional trailer) of 10,000 lbs. That is it. It will tow more, but the law is set for 10,000 lbs with a class IV hitch. No more. That kind of sucks since it has so much torque and power being a diesel.
