LAX Security Screener Charged With Stealing
Money From PassengerÂ’s Purse
LOS ANGELES – A former Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent will be
arraigned tomorrow on charges she stole $300 in cash from a passengerÂ’s purse while the
item was going through a routine security search at Los Angeles International Airport.
Pandra Benton, 45, was charged with one count of petty theft. The charge arose from an
incident in May in which a TSA agent working at LAXÂ’s Bradley International Terminal
allegedly saw Benton take cash from the purse of a passenger as the it was selected for a
random search after going through an X-ray machine. The TSA agent later reported the
incident to a supervisor. The passenger initially did not realize any money was missing,
but later returned to speak with the police and advised them that she was, in fact, missing
money.
The incident was recorded on videotape, which was booked into evidence for trial.
Benton later made a confession to a TSA investigator regarding the incident and was
terminated.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Benton, whose true name is Pandra
Siddell, has an outstanding warrant on a 1991 theft charge.
The petty theft charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000
fine. Arraignment is scheduled for Division 141 of the Airport Courthouse, where it will
be prosecuted by Deputy City Attorney Billie Jean Brown of the City AttorneyÂ’s Pacific
Branch.
