Droped AOL Dial-up and now with Comcast Cable... just a few days ago working working very fast but now only during odd ball hours like in the early AM. Right now it's much slower than my old dial-up connection.
Any ideas?
I also had a "Runtime Error R6025" pop-up ???

A big problem is usually spyware... Did you install anything like Kazaa on your computer since getting HSI? Try one of these programs out - the microsoft program is SUPER easy to use.
Microsoft Windows Defender http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&DisplayLang=en
Ad Aware (great product) http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
Spybot (good too) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
Be sure to let them run updates before scanning!
You might also try running some speed tests to see where your at as far as your bandwidth goes, it is not very accurate and will vary from test to test, but it should be close to the advertised speed (It will not usually get too close though due to overhead traffic on the internet and their site) -- http://www.dslreports.com/stest

I have found that Spybot picks up things that Ad Aware doesnt .Ive been using it instead.Iwould also call the cable company and have them check their line.

before jumping on the spyware bandwagon I'll ask ...how fast are ya ? (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/)
Last Result:
Download Speed: 3212 kbps (401.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 245 kbps (30.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
sometimes mine slows down to the rate of a dial up I can usually cure it by rebooting the modem and the router.

Here's what I cam up with...
connection speed ok...
Running Spybot and Adaware...everything good with both.
***Installed PC-cillin Internet Security 2006 May 3'rd.
NOW...at first (after install) computer was running great/fast, but started getting much slower the past few days.
So I did a system restore back to just prior the PC-cillin install and it's back up to speed again. I do recall several PC-Cillin updates happening the past few days, and that's when things went down hill....(got real slow)!
Could it somehow be the Antivirus?
Running Windows XP Home Edition bla-bla-bla.
thanks for any feedback

you could also try ctrl+alt+delete to bring up your task manager to see if anything is hogging resources

I've never run that Antivirus myself but YES some antivirus software will make your system crawl... I read a review on this recently, I'll see if I can find it. Right now at home I use AVG Free edition (free for home use) and it seems to work very well http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 - Note that all this does is antivirus, no fancy firewall or anything else... but it's quick! I also am licensed for McAfee 8.0i enterprise but choose to use AVG at home because all I want is the basics... but at work I deploy McAfee (can't use AVG at work legally free).

Also get your network on a router, helps keep amatuer hackers out. It also helps spam bots from finding your computer.

Yup, easiest way I recommend to keep yourself a little more secure without the hassle of firewall software..... is to get a router ($60 - With most ISP's....it's plug in and viola) Software firewall can be confusing and you can easily misconfigure and break your internet connection or other apps.

Show off :p I wish my up speed was "uncapped" sure would make my FTP clients happier.
I agree with the router suggestion a good hardware based NAT firewall is worth it's weight in gold at times. block ICMP ping. and turn off your computer browser and server services in windooze comp management. cant hack what you cant see. better yet try one (http://www.linuxiso.org/index.php)
