Does anyone have any input on the Arctic Cat Prowler compared to the Rhino?
Price is about the same. Prowler is a little faster and a hair bigger.
They both are selling out like hotcakes.
I have a buddy thats a dealer for Arctic Cat will get me one that he ordered for himself. I just don't know much about Arctic Cat. I've always been a Yamaha guy.

My buddy has the polaris, had the new full custom cage fabbed, a full rear bench, belts, etc. They loaded up and headed out and the thing wouldn't turn if they hit a bump and the front end got light...
He just sold it and bought the Kaw 4 seater Mule as it at least will have good CG.
All depends on how many peeps you want to carry, etc...
I hope this thread gets a lot of good responses as we are looking right now too... Good luck RD.

We loaded BB572's Rhino up with a bunch of people in the back of it, and it didn't turn so well either (flat ground), granted it was alot of people in / on it..

And just how many is "a bunch"... :D :D :D
I heard a good test is throw three 90 pound bags of mud on the back and see how she goes...
I'd like to see a streched Rhino with the bigger EFI motor. Either that or see someone build one!

The artic cat stock does 55 mph compared to the rhinos 40-42 mph the cat has a 1500lb towing capasity 1 ft of ground clearance and comes in three colors red, mint green, and i think blue. i'm leaning more towords the artic cat.The only bummer is its Not being sold in Cali until 06. so you cant even see one in person to compaire.

It seemed a little wider too (never seen a Rhino exept pictures). I just don't know much about Arctic Cat. I've always been a Blue guy.

I pulled the trigger on an Arctic Cat Prowler today. Had the Rhino and the Prowler side by side and the wife said no question wich one is better. Hope I made the right move. I know it will be harder to get aftermarket parts. I hope I can get the back seat for the Prowler. It's bigger if anything is different.

it all comes down to reliability and that would be the Yamaha. I've had Polaris, Bombardier and Artic Cat products and they all suck!

Dusty Times
10-27-2005, 06:23 AM
Reliability must be good for atleast 3 years on the Arctic Cat.
3 years bumper to bumper waranty

If you look at used Artic Cats, you need to be aware of the recall...

Went for a ride today in a new Ranger XP. The thing is pretty badass.
40hp,700 twin EFI
Through some rough washes with big boulders, rough terrain.
Went up some pretty steep hills gravel/dirt no problem with 3 people in the front seat.Very stable and solid ride.
Not as sporty looking as a Rhino.I'm not familiar enough with either one
to say one is better for whatever reason but have ridden in both and either
would be a blast to own. Will be going back and looking at these Rangers alittle more in the near future.
Anybody that has any info on the new Ranger,Please share.

Arctic Cat, a long time maker of snowmobiles and ATV's, steps into the side-by-side off-road utility vehicle market with the introduction of its Prowler XT 650 H1.
Polaris and Yamaha, among others, have their version of the off-road utility vehicle. Each has become very popular in the last few years for all types of uses -hunting, working around the farm and just plain fun. Arctic Cat decided it was time to jump into the mix and offer their version of a multi-passenger work horse. A quick glance of the features and specifications tells us they didn't hold back! Let's take a brief look at these three machines.
At-a-glance each features a liquid-cooled 4-stroke power plant with automatic, on-demand 4WD transmissions. Comparing engines specs, the Prowler comes with a 650cc engine, the Rhino 660cc, the Ranger 500cc and Ranger XP has 683cc. (We are comparing 4x4 models. Polaris does also have a 2WD model with a 653cc engine).
Reportedly, the Prowler motor sits between the seats while the others are positioned more toward the rear. After hands-on testing, we know the Rhino motor sits between the seat as well, purposely positioned not too far to the front to drag the Rhino forward on steep decents, or too far back to make it prone to wheelies. If Prowler's motor is even farther forward, look for it to be placed at about the knees, reducing floorboard space? We aren't sure, and will have to check it out in person.
The Prowler and the Rhino both have independent double wishbone suspension on the front and rear, while the Ranger has MacPhearson struts on the front and independent suspension on the rear. The Prowler is the widest, has the most suspension travel, and has more ground clearance than the Rhino and the Ranger. The Arctic Cat has more ground clearance due to it having the larger tires of the three.
The Rhino has the lightest dry weight of 1,049 pounds, with the Prowler coming in at 1,160 pounds and the Ranger came in the heaviest at 1,185 pounds.
We find it odd that the Polaris has the smallest motor but claims the highest bed capacity (1000 pounds) and towing capacity (1,500 pounds) of these three utility vehicles. [Editor's Note - thanks to sharp reader Ron Heater for pointing out that this is due to the lower gearing on the Ranger.]
We are excited to see Arctic Cat step up and build an off-road utility vehicle and can't wait to try one out! Now the only question is when will Honda step up?

much better than I was hoping for,We went up olds hill 50 times, full of kids etc.The motors stock, only the CDI box.It goes everywhere I want to go,momentum is key.It will climb more than you would think,4X4 with the diff locked it goes up everything. Its much smoother than i was hoping for also,it goes through the sand chop great,no steering wheel shaking,no kidney pounding.Ive jumped it a bit, nothing huge, lands soft,no hard rebound.Plus it carries beer

I have the "Cat Green" and my buddy ordered a red one last week.
I have only 9 hrs on mine, but had it in the high desert around here and really liked it, gobs of bottom end and desent top end 50 mph, I just ordered a new CDI and carb and AC says it will bump it up 8 mph. :rollside:
Tail gate raddles and needs support cables other than that we love ours!
With 10" of wheel travel and a super low range gear it makes a great rock climber!
We are right now designing rear roll cages and back seats, heating systems, soft cabs, windsheilds and a few other goodys and should be avail. soon.
