Sorry I have not got back to anyone lately on the drain plugs but I have been working on passing my real estate exam and now I have passed. Anyway I have a pic of the new plug with the changes and had it platted but still can not post pics with this account. Can anyone add a pic for me to show?

For those that were worried about someone using a 1/2 torx or any other tool I added a nipple to the center to keep it from being tamperd with.

Yes, it is a 1/2 pipe thread but I brang the diameter down a little to get the plug to go in further to make it harder to tamper with and also makes a better seal with more contact. Pic shown is my boat with original drain so it will work.

They are all the same pattern. It would be a pain to spit out code for different patterns and I dont think you could get that many different patterns in such a simple and small part anyway. The idea was that whoever the piece of **** is that pulls these out will not have that many tools under water to try and get this out while they are on there drunken, jealous wish that was my boat rage.

SmokinLowriderSS
10-28-2005, 04:48 PM
One pattern will likely suffice, at least for a while. 2 or 3 would likely be good enough. Nice idea, and best of luck to you. I don't use threaded so I won't be ordering one. :clover:

what is the cost on one shiping and all
That really depends if I can make a lot of them. For a short run the cost in set-up will reflect more and make the price like $40 wich I think I will have to do to start. But it would be nice if I could make a large quantity of them and show a lot more of a price break. Thats assuming I would give one tool and two plugs.

That's a good looking plug!
Don't mind me but it looks like they could use Vice Grips or some other pliers to grab onto the outside of the plug?
If it was flush then there'd be no chance of that.

I think with the screws it would be alot harder then it looks but also If you had it in there it would be easier to pass by your boat and they would mess with the others near bye unless it was an act pointed right at you

I would also like everyones input on what they would like to see machined for your boats. Thinking of making some other parts for myself and would like to know what others want.
For those who want the plugs pm me so I can get a better idea of how many I should be making. Note cat or vee. Thanks.

Great idea, I think somene would pass your boat, or damage it in some other way before messing with the plug, but in reality, all they would need is a phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws holding the whole assembly in, and they by-pass your security system.
It would really work nice, if you sold a kit that replaced the three Phillips screws with one way security type screws.
I applaud your efforts, and I'm just trying to give positive ideas.

Where are the math freaks??
How many different combo's could you make by just deleting 2 of the notches, moving away from each other 1 notch each time?? Would be fairly easy to set up. Could make it even tougher by putting the center pin off center and moving the notches around that also.
To make it tougher to pull with pliers, could the key area be shrunk and recessed into the threaded portion so it was a true flush plug?

And, taking a drill, and chamfering out the head of the phillips screws.

You could make five combos. Starting at 12 o'clock, you could remove 12 and 1, 12 and 2, 12 and 3, 12 and 4 and 12 and 6, before they started repeating.What happened to 12 and 5? :)

Change the 3 phillips head screw, with Tamper-proof torx screw for security.
Tamper-proof torx have the Tit in the middle, just like your drain plug.

This would be very hard to do. Any good manufacturer uses Epoxy puddy to set in the drain plugs. Some use silicone, but most use the puddy. With epoxy puddy that thing is not coming off in the water. Usually to get them out, you have to go inside with a 3/4" socket and extention and wack it with a hammer on the inside. Usually it takes off quite a bit of gel when it does pop. I would find it very difficult to believe that someone would 1) take the time to unscrew the three screws & 2) be able to pop the drain plug off the back of the boat.
Even if a manufacturer used silicone instead of epoxy puddy, there is a nice tight seal that will stick to the boat. Would take a ton of time and be very difficult to do.

Stainless would be cool but brass is used as opposed to stainless steel to help prevent seizing to the mating part. Also the brass is softer to help make a better seal and prevent leaks.

I think that's an old wives tale.. I've seen some flats sink while tied to the docks at the bar becuase of low freeboard issues, but I've never seen a bit boat sink at the dock.

But it aint happening under water. Most boaters with any experience check thier plugs before launching. They are a tighter fit than you'd think.

Finally got these done from the plater and just in time for stocking stuffers. The tools have been redesinged so you dont need a socket to get the plug on the tool connects right to your ratchet. PM me for more info.

The Plug is the same as any other drain plug (1/2-14) besides the method of removal.

I wouldn't think his jet boat has a threaded plug. I know I have never owned a boat that had one.
Nice looking product!

Thanks DEANO I will give you a deal if you want some of these.
The V set (2 plugs 1 key) is $39 and the Cat set (3 plugs 1 key) is $49. Extra keys are $12 and Extra plugs are $9. To order I need the email you want the bill sent to and tell me what order is for. You will get a bill from paypal, you pay it online and I ship the parts to you. Very fast, easy and I think everyone who ordered from here can say they have not had any problems.
