Well, it looks like I have BAD luck with subwoofers and amps b/c the cheap and free JBL 10" sub I got for x-mas 4 years ago has finally given up. There are burn marks on the circuit board. and it might have something to do with me hooking up a 4 ohm 10" Kicker to it fro more output. :hammer2:
What kind of home subs should I look for at a reasonable price for the performance?
Can I get an amp and use the cabinet and woofer I still have and be set for future upgrades?
What kind of amps are cost friendly?
HEY ROZ !!!! Got any deals right now ???????

Anything Velodyne makes is pretty hardcore also, and with better pricing.

;) :D I have Velodyne ... :D
Figures.
Probably the hardest hitting subwoofer around - let alone for the $
EDIT:
Uh, ROZ? Have you seen the specs on the Velodyne CHT-R series? 230V???? Yikes! Nothing like having a 230V dryer plug installed in your living room, eh? Yeah, the wife'l love that.

Tell us what your budget is, and I am sure we could help you out a lot better. Or you can go with this one (http://www.svsubwoofers.com/subs_pb10_isd.htm) it really packs a punch.

I have the Velodyne HGS-15, found it new for $1625 and drove 2 hrs. to get it. VERY solid performer. 1250 rms, 2" excursion, 3" voice coil, 24 lb. magnet structure, 2 year warranty. Remote took a shit after a year and a half. Called manufacturer up and they sent a new one overnight, no charge.

A few of the Velodynes can be had for around 7-800 at CC or GoodGuys. 4-500 on internet.
any less than $400 you won't want in your living room anyway.

GoodGuys is going out of biz and has all their speakers 40% off right now, lots of new in the box stuff. I saw a few velodynes there but worry about where to take them back for warranty problems after all the stores close. They had the little one Roz has for about 600$ which is at the VERY top of what I want to spend.
I cant listen to anything there though b/c it is all disconnected.

I wouldn't worry about having problems with a Velodyn sub. As long as you don't abuse it, That thing should last a long time :clover: :clover:

Well, I couldn't wait so I went to a different Good Guys and picked up a new in box Energy S12.3 sub for 479** The original price was 800**
I listened to it there and it seemed to be pretty good without KILLING my budget. I have an Energy center channel and like it so I went ahead and got the sub.
It has 300W rms and a pretty good looking driver.

Perfect. Just let it "break in" before you pound on it. Give it 10 or 12 hours of play time. It will sound quite a bit different.

This is mine, knock Sony all you want, it has a forward and a downward firing 10" sub and it pounds in my house....I love it not only for home theater, but when playing music, it sounds more like a car (boat's) system.

Take a look at a Magnolia Home Theater. It is a great place to shop. I buy all my audio equipment there for the house and the boats. Martin Logan Dynamo for $599.99 will kick ass... also the Defiinitive Super Cube II is nice at $899.99
