The drawing is tonight. It's up to 315 million! Take a tax free lump sum of about 118 mil or take the increasing payments over 26 years starting at over 5 million after taxes.

1 in 176,000,000. Same odds of actually getting a ***boat T-Shirt.
If I won, I'd get a DCB Stereo Cover.

CALIFORNIA HAS ITS FIRST MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT WINNER -- WINNING TICKET SOLD IN ANAHEIM
SACRAMENTO – California State Lottery officials are excited to announce that California has sold its first MEGA Millions jackpot ticket. Last night’s winning combination of 2, 4, 5, 40, 48 and the MEGA number 7 was sold at Rainbow Water in Anaheim.
“We are so happy to have our first MEGA Millions jackpot winner here in California,” said Melissa Meith, Acting Director for the California State Lottery. “Now we will eagerly look forward to the winner making themselves known. It’s just a waiting game at this point.”
If the winner chooses annual payments, they will receive equal payments of more $12 million a year (before federal tax withholding) for the next 26 years. A winner has the opportunity to choose the cash value of their jackpot prize within 60 days of the claim date. Rainbow Water is located at 1682 West Katella Avenue, in Anaheim, CA. This retailer will receive a bonus of $1,000,000 for selling the winning ticket. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their prize.

So, let's say you won, cash value or equal payments? Convential wisdom says cash value, which is what I woudl do. Also, would you go on TV and be shown as the winner? I wouldn't. I'd keep as low of a profile as possible. And contact SK to build me a custom home in LHC!

A family from up here won the 345 million dollar powerball last month. They claimed that they were gonna stay the same, keep working and not let the money affect them. Since they won, they've been in People magazine, three morning shows and actually made so many demands of the ABC morning show that ABC ended up passing on the story. Instant snobbery!
Oh, and the odds on the lottery are worse than you think. You are 17 times more likely to die in a car crash driving to buy your ticket than you are to actually win the money. No thanks. The lottery is a tax on the mathmatically challenged.

One of my favorites. The lottery people would love my other favorite: "You can't lose if you don't play".
You should play the "smart man's lottery" instead. Take that $20 a week you play on the lotto and invest it instead. In 35 years you get a guaranteed payoff of $500,000!!! :jawdrop:

There are several mutual funds that have averaged 12% or better for 30+ years. The stock market has averaged 12% for 70+ years. That's pretty close to a guarantee if you don't panic and bail out during a down turn. Even if I'm only 75% right, you still have $375,000.

I still have the sense of humor. That's why it's funny to me that people take something like the lottery seriously when it's a joke. That's why I made the sarcastic remarks. Sorry for being a buzzkill. I was trying to point out the folly of the whole deal.....

I bet the winner doesn't think it's a joke. :)
We know the odds suck, hence the term, "you hit the lottery."
