Yes and no, It would have meant more out of pocket to pay off the loan, but if we sell it before March we will still come out ahead of that figure, figuring in payments and storage. Anyhow have to wait and see what happens. Hope you had a good holiday.

I just peeked at it. Has anybody bid on it yet? I have never used EBay myself but I thought they showed all the bids after they are made?
No bids yet. I thought for sure there would have been a few by now.

What does no reserve mean?
That if no one else bids you can buy it for the starting bid price.

That if no one else bids you can buy it for the starting bid price.
Yes, but only in this case because the starting bid is the reserve.
DILLIGAF - The reserve is an amount set by the seller as the least amount they want to accept for the item. The reserve on an item could be set at $10,000 with a starting bid at $1. Bidding goes on until the reserve is "met", but as a bidder, you don't know what that reserve is, until it is reached. You could be high bidder at $9,000 but no sale will take place until the bids go up over 10k.
If the starting bid is $1 and there is no reserve, that item could be bought for $1 if nobody else bids.

Try and bid on it, I'll bet you the starting bid is 55k

Very true however, a reserve amount is hidden from the buyers. The use of a minimum bid amount lets everyone know the lowest amount someone is willing to take for the item in question.

you would have to bid 55K + 1 dollar.. :crossx:

This auction has no reserve, but it has a minimum bid, which is, in effect, a reserve - a reserve that is "announced" and out there for everyone to see. Sorry if I confused matters with the $10k thing, that was only an example.

That's a good price for that boat. That price is not much more than what I paid for my 247XS over two years ago.

Would it be better if the auction started at $1 with a hidden reserve of $55k??

You'd definitely get more bidding activity, but only up to what people want to bid. They may never get to your reserve.
You've got a good price there, I just don't know how many custom boat buyers there are on e-bay. Lots of "garage sale" types to deal with looking for more than they deserve.

So, how about those taxes? :rollside: Is there luxo tax on boats???

There is a personal property tax on boats. It is 1% of the value anually. It can be avoided if your boat is used and stored in AZ.

I am aware of that. I am talking about sales tax. About 7.5% in your area I guess ($4,125 on a $55k purchase). Plus, I thought that there was a luxury sales tax on personal property items purchased over $45k or something like that.

No luxury tax on boats at the time of purchase and yes there is sales tax calculated at 7.75%.

Got it. Thanks. I guess the luxo tax thing was federal and was phased out a few years ago. At the time it was active I never owned a car that was over the threshold so I never really took too much interest in it. Found this on the net:
Luxury tax. The other excise tax that applies to some new cars is a 4 percent tax (for 2001) on any portion of the sales price of a car that exceeds $38,000. For 2002, the tax is scheduled to decrease to 3 percent and will expire after 2002. The dollar threshold above which the tax is imposed is indexed for inflation each year. The tax is collected by car dealers and reported by them to the government.
