I'd like to buy my daughter a new laptop/notebook computer for Christmas.
I have no clue where/what to buy.
She's in her second year of college.
I checked Dell and they seem kinda high on the price @ around 8 bones.
Any imput on price/proper/where to buy laptop would be appreciated.
Thanks

WalMart tomorrow morning... (5am-11am ONLY)
$378.00 no Gimmicks, NO rebates... A really good HP Pavilion notebook.
Good Luck

Dell is pretty competitive. I've had two and they work great for me.

...I like the price of the HP stuff, but, we have a lot of HP product @ work. The quality & service issues don't inspire (my) confidence...caveat emptor...

Got my Dell from the Dell Outlet section on the Dell website.
These are returns and/or refurbished models, but come with the same warranty as the new ones. I've bought a couple of these, saved a bunch of money, and have no issues.
Inspiron w/ 1.6 Ghz processor
512 RAM
Wireless
15" screen
all the bells and whistles
$478.00
They usually have incentives like a free printer, free shipping, etc.

Or they get a big ticket?

Make sure you know what she needs and wants in a notebook for college or she actually won't be as happy as you hoped.
And software - don't forget that or it'll be useless without it (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

She's not going to want a laptop with a wireless "card." She needs one with Centrino (wireless built in to the laptop) keeping the card slots free. It's stuff like this I was referring to when I posted earlier.

We rolled in to Simi Wallmart at 4:30 AM and according to my trip odometer, the line to get in was 7/10 of a mile long.
We went home, but thanks for the heads up,,

When I got to Sears at 5:08 (opened at 6), there were about 500-700 people in line at the main entrace to get a $10 gift card. The problem was, the gift cards were only for the first 200 people in line at the main entrance. I walked to another entrace and walked right in at 6:00 am. Meanwhile, there were still people in the line to get in when I walked out at 6:15. No gift cards for them. People are not very bright.
last year similar deal. I picked the shortest line only a few of us there. walked up to get the card and was told I came in the wrong door  I got the card after a little "are you kidding" rant.

I didn't know Sears instituted a lottery system to gain entrance to the store.

Those early morning stories are crazy. Guess I don't feel so lazy since I'm not rushing out the door to nab some of the $5 1mil/rechargeable spot lights from Radio Shack. Ifigure they probably only have a dozen or so in stock anyways!

Don't fret if you can't find a computer today. Office Depot and Circuit City usually have close outs (not advertised) on the floor. Not floor mdels, just older stock. I picked up an Acer out the door for $400 during the middle of the summer.
Get as big of a hardrive as will fit - college kids are really into music/mp3's. REALLY into them.

I didn't breeze through the replies on this Thread, however, I know that Walmart has a price buster on a laptop, it is either a compaq or another familiar name for less than 400!!!!!
