I know this has been discussed before but what is a good GPS to get? The hubby wants the Garmon something or another for Christmas and I have no clue. :rollside:

There are a lot of different models, and they all do things a little different, i have 3 different ones, one is better for the boat one is only for the car/bike and one for the jeep. if you don't want to ask him the model he wants then i would by one local where he can return it if it's not the right one.

Ok, so with the yellow one...if we were out riding, could we put in where we are camped and where we are in relation to that???
Sorry, I honestly have no clue about these do-dads. :)

Yep!! you sure can... Plus they make several different mounts for the e-trex. You can mount it on your bicycle handle bars, your car dash, or a marine mount or just throw it on the dash. Even carry it in your shirt pocket. Very portable....Lots of functions to play with as well. Wal-mart sells them for right at $99

The yellow Garmin E-trex is a no frills great handheld GPS. I just ordered the Garmin eTrex Vista C Color one yesterday for my Christmas present. It cost $230 (no tax or shipping thru Amazon.com). The yellow one was around $90. Go to Amazon and read the write-ups on it. The case I ordered was another $11 and the handlebar mount (for my sandrail) was another $12.
Oh yeah, I signed up for their dumb credit card and saved another $30! :rollside:

I will be getting a Garmin Legend for Christmas (Santa told me so...and had me buy it myself ;) ).
It all depends what you want to spend, and what features you will want to use. The Legend will do everything you should need for riding. There is a Legend C now that adds color, true street navigation, a faster processor, and longer battery life than the Lagend. The C will set you back over $200 easy, I just got the Non-C for $100 new.
You can spend a lot more money, but you don't have to for what you're looking to do with it. I got mine for boating, riding, and we've also played around with Geocaching.

Hey Jas,
Is the Legend different from the yellow one? Can we use it in the boat too?

Yeah, the yellow is the bare bones, bottom of the line one. It would probably work just fine. Robert has that one, and I had his for a month or two. It works good also, the Legend has gotten nearly as cheap though, and has lots more features.
Any can be used in a boat. They are handheld, so everywhere you can bring your hand, you can use a handheld GPS. :p They actually work very well in boats for speed, average speed, and distance. Also, you can mark you favorite secret coves, so you can go back later, w/o having to nose into 6 other coves trying to remember the right one.....something I do a lot of!!! LOL.
