View Full Version : What new deck boats are out there?

yeah,right

Not that I'm looking for one. I have no desire to own one. I just thought I'd start a thread so all the thread jackers can come to one thread and talk about their favorite deck boats.

Not to hijack the thread but I've seen people refer to bowriders as deck boats on these boards. Noob questions, but who can offer a definition of a bowrider (open bow) versus deck boat?
By the way, the Eliminator deck boat is teh hot!

A bowrider is a boat with available seating in what would normally be covered if it was a closed bow. A deckboat is typically a cat hull bottom with a deck configuration that allows easy on/off boarding at the beach.

Deckboats are popular, they have tons of storage, sink and a nice floor to wash down. Cats differ by not having the big front swimstep entrance, but they do have forward bulkheads and the drivers area is a little more sporty. There are soo many boats out there, shop around and find what suits you best. As a whole, cat insurance will be more if you go over a 496ci motor.

Yeah, what about these mid cuddy style boats. Many of you have them. Do you refer to them as bow riders?

To me that is a cuddy cabin and cuddy cabin implies that the bow is open. But that's just me.....

To me that's a cat. Yes, it has a cuddy, but it's still a cat to me. What does magic call that?? Isn't cuddy more of a feature and not the style of boat?? Hmmm, it gets confusing......but to me a deckboat has a walk on and off from the front.

I know a guy with a fully loaded 2004 252 for cheap. I agree for the price if you want a deckboat it's the way to go.

Then why did you start a thread saying you are new and interested in them?
Is it spam? Interest? or experienced? I don't think it could be all three. :)

Playcrafts are TOONS. Not a deck boat.
Deckboats are Fiberglass bottoms. Toons are Toons. They share likeness, but are different.
So did you buy one last nite after you're first post inquiring about them?
Maybe you should stick to combines :)

I saw Brent Leach's first 25 deck boat called Next and it's killer if the size works for you. It has a new idea that some builder will steal by next years boatshow. Firstclass layup with great rigging, I am impressed.

Here are some pics of the new Next 255 Deckboat, totally different then any other deckboat out there. Check the transom, much easier boarding the boat with steps leading into the water. We will be posting more pics on our web site as the boat progresess. www.nextcustomboats.com

Is there going to be a large bolt on either fiber glass or billet swim step over the drive that goes in between the 2 stairways?

RDYes, there will be a billet swim step between the 2 sets of stairs. This style transom should work really well for boarding the boat from the water, the bottom step will be totally submerged in the water eliminating the need for a retractable boarding ladder. you can pretty much swim right up into the step. I will post some more pics on here on within the NEXT few days.

I like the concepts, just not hot on the idea of loosing all that rear seating area. I would like to see the boarding on one side and the rear seat wrap around so you don't loose any seating space.

More than 6 people in a 25' boat is not much fun to drive.

I agree! This boat can seat 10 people comfortably. 6-bow, 2-cockpit seats, and 2-3 rear bench, plenty of seating with a much more user friendly boat.

Her are some pics of the new Next 255 deckboat!! Gauges, steering, mufflers... just need to drop the motor in and finish up the interior and she's ready for the water!! Ultra's got the new 26' Shadow Deck, same hull as the 27' Shadow.
Great boat, with stock power (496HO), ran in low 70's based on test (half tank and 6 poeple). See attachements for photos.

Not trying to be negative, but why did you use the same gel scheme with different colors? I was just wondering why if you were going to spray a whole new boat (with only 2 out there as well) why not do something different?

Supposedly the 1st one hit water yesterday. :) I think they are going to put some pictures up of it in the water, and hopefully a few details of how it ran. I'm sure there's going to be alot of dial in from the 1st setup, but maybe we can get an idea?
Nice talking to you on the phone Brent, by the way.

I will be intrested in seeing the Next boat when it's floating. I personaly think the dual rear step off looks a little funny but respect the design and the fact that something new was tried.
Also The Gel scheme leaves alot to be desired art work wise.I think the gel and lines look great but I don't think either of the scemes is helping the overall looks of the boat.Maybe a scheme that would help make the boat look a little less stubby?
Congrats on getting it on the water and I hope you hit the numers you were hoping for!!:)

RDThe blue and grey boat is going to a customer in Arizona, they saw the design of the first boat, liked it and decided to do the same graphic but with the blues and greys. The third boat we are building will have a totally different graphic then the first two boats. I will post pics of that boat as well once it is out of the mold!!

Just got back from the ride on the first Next 255 deckboat!!! If you think the boat looks good on the trailer wait until you see the picks of the boat in the water. First boat with a 496HO, 60+ gallons of fuel we got 72mph on a standard 4-blade bravo prop. Now we will start dialing it in and switch up some props, maybe a shorter drive!!! So far so good, we are very pleased with how the boat performed and the the speeds we got out of the boat today!!!!

RDThanks, the staircase sits just the way we wanted it to, just under the water line for easy boarding! Since these pics we have installed side handles along the stairs and we are in the process of making a swim step for it as well. That should be done in a few days and i will post pics once we install it on the boat. I will also post pics of the second boat out of the mold (blue&grey) once we are done installing the interior.
