to buy or not to buy??
Cindy its not the engine to worry about in terms of contract or not...
Its all the other stuff on the truck that might/will eventually fail. window motors, A/C compressor, that kind of stuff.
I have been in the GM service business 12 years, I recommend service contracts IF YOU CAN BUY A GOOD ONE. Some are not worth the paper they are written on. GMPP Major Guard is the best one. DO NOT buy their Value Guard contract, the coverage is junk. If you are considering an aftermarket service contract, CNA is based out of Scottsdale and is a very good company to deal with. Most of the others are a real hassle to get a claim paid.

buying it from the dealer does not mean that it is the factory contract...
almost all dealers offer aftermarket contracts also. They're cheaper, and have a higher gross profit built in too

I would get it. There are too many parts that are high $ on those things
that could go bad after the 36K dealio expires. I plan on getting one for
my 2005 Crew Cab at around 35,000 miles to extend it on. Remember, the
Allison is out of warranty at 36K.
I got one on my Caddy STS and it more than paid for itself, especially when
they had to pull the motor at 50k to fix an oil leak. :yuk:
Good luck
