These aren't required by law, but good idea to have anyway. :)

Is the throwable the round circular thing? Most people carry a throwable cushon, although throwables do come in round circular models too. It just needs to be a Coast Guard approved Type IV flotation device (aka a throwable). You need to keep it readily available too. If you get checked and your throwable is buried in some locker the LEO isn't going to be happy. :)

You do need the throwable and a paddle by law. You also need a signaling device if you are on the water at dawn or dusk. West Marine has a great kit for $65.00 that has all the little stuff that is required in a waterproof container. They have all the rules and required items in a booklet they can give you.

A box of tampons and a couple of maxis in case your chick has a heavy flow day and forgets to bring the proper supplies. If you forget the tampons, you can always let her use the spare plug.

Cell phone and Cheeto's. Every time I put in the water w/o them, I have to use the paddle. I mean every time.

Get a good first aid kit, or you could just use the maxi-pads and some duct tape if somebody gets cut real bad
BTW, Nick...boat looks sweet. Classic Howard lines. Nice.

We have a "ditch bag" that floats in case we all have to jump in the water in an emergency...when we launch, all our ID's, keys, and cell phones are in there, plus our registration and insurance papers...we also keep maps of Havasu and the river in there..... :boxed:

Padddle isn't required by law, but good to have. Signal kit (Visual Distess signals) are only required when operating in Coastal Waters or on the Great Lakes.
Insurance is not mandatory for boats.

I guess I have been had. The person at West Marine pulled out the AZ safe boater guidelines and it showed all the required items and gave a description of why and when they would be needed. If you ever see our boat on the water and need any of the extra CRAP we bought let me know. I don't feel bad about the paddle and throwable because those items have followed us through 3 boats but the $65.00 orange floating thermus that has all the distress signals and explosives I bought is really getting to me now. Thanks for the truth Alan.
