That's really sad and surprising...the road over there is not exactly a high speed highway, you wouldn't expect that kind of fatal accident.

very sad to see! I can ALMOST bet it was in front of the Islander. They are doing road work, and the road is half gone going west, it makes you drive over the yellow lines directly into on coming traffic. freaked me out a bit last week. Our best goes out to the families involved.

I was thinking the same thing when we were there a few weeks back.

"In A Hurry" Crash Kills Two
LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - A three-vehicle accident that started as a head-on collision south of Lake Havasu has claimed the life of Dean Simpkins of Lake Havasu City and his female passenger this afternoon around 12:40pm. Simpkins died at the scene while his unidentified passenger died later from her injuries at Havasu Regional Medical Center.
Lake Havasu City Police officer Gene Radecki told TSN that the accident occurred on Beachcomber Boulevard, a mile west of the Crazy Horse campground on the way to Site 6. Radecki said Simpkins, driver of a ’92 Ford Explorer was traveling west bound and attempted to pass a line of cars on a curve. In doing so, he collided “semi head-on, passenger side to passenger side” with a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Thomas McLaughlin, III of Nevada. McLaughlin’s vehicle rolled onto its side and came to rest on the shoulder.
Meanwhile, a third vehicle became involved in the accident when the victims’ Explorer was struck by a 2001 Ford Expedition head-on. The Expedition was carrying five passengers, but Radecki said nobody was injured and it was a relatively minor collision.

Waverunner Fatality
LAKE MOHAVE, AZ – Tragedy struck the start of the Memorial Day holiday weekend when a woman died at Princess Cove yesterday afternoon while operating a personal watercraft in dangerous weather conditions.
The National Park Service reports that a 32-year-old woman identified as Laura Ventura of Los Angeles, California, died while operating a waverunner with two people onboard. The NPS Dispatch Center reports an emergency call came in just after 4:00pm saying that a woman needed immediate medical attention and was in the water struggling with the wind and high waves.
Two NPS Rangers and two paramedics from Rescue Unit 31 arrived at Princess Cove at around 4:18pm, about 4 miles north of Katherine Landing. The rangers attempted to revive the victim with CPR for over 10 minutes; the exact cause of death is unknown.
The two surviving passengers told park rangers they had been in the water with Ventura for 30-minutes to an hour, but none of the three people were able to get back on the personal watercraft. The park service also reports a lake wind advisory was in effect, with sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 40 mph at the time of the accident.
The case is still under investigation by the Mohave County Coroner.

I know a girl who can't swim, but rides a waverunner relying solely on her life vest.
Wonder if the TA was alcohol related.

According to Lake Havasu City Police, the local man, driving a Ford Explorer, was westbound on Beachcomber Boulevard behind a line of cars when he apparently became impatient. He pulled out to pass the line of cars, crossing the double yellow line into the oncoming eastbound lane. Police said the driver, traveling at a high rate of speed, ended up in the path of McColgan, driving a Ford F-150 Super Cab, towing a personal watercraft trailer.
The two vehicles collided head-on, just off center. The force caused the Explorer to turn 180 degrees and flip onto its side. The F-150 was propelled into the westbound lane where it ran into a Ford Excursion, towing a Commander Boat, driven by Kevin B. Perazzolo, 18, of Redondo Beach, Calf. Both the Excursion and the F-150 then went off the road into the dirt, where the F-150 ended up on its side.
Perazzolo, and four passengers, Brian Perazzolo, 21; Daniel Perazzolo, 52; Natasha Perazzolo, 16, all of Redondo Beach; and Christian Salomon, 32, of Hawthorne, Calif., were not injured.

Reads like it's not an accident, but as the LEO's might write in their report; a preventable collision.

You see this more and more everyday on the highways....you just can't be "in a hurry" in such high-density conditions... The Explorer driver, depending on the LEO findings, could be in deep doo-doo....

Man that really sucks. We launched at Princess Cove on Sat & Sun. Alot of PWC's and alot of ignorance on the launch ramp as well as on the water. It was super windy on Saturday and we were lucky to make it off the water without taking on too much h20. GA was dead on Sat. We made our own party cove on Sun.
