My new business is growing much faster than expected so I need to step up and "legitimize" my appearance (no more homemade business cards, etc).
Anyone here ever hire a design firm to create a business logo?
I have found a few internet based designers that seem legit but I'm a little concerned about getting "taken".
Any ideas, experiences?
All info appreciated...

I did my own.... ...not saying everyone should, but sometimes the best person to try to say what it is that you do is the guy who does what you do ;)

We used The Logo Loft (http://www.thelogoloft.com) it only took a couple of working days and cost about $150

Thank you all for your advice and info. I will be saving these contacts for future use. For right now, I'm going to use 1 of 3 internet services because of the multiple designers (3-5) and quick turnaround (2-3 days).
I need to have this completed by late next week (yes, I should have done this a month ago!) because I have just landed 3 projects that will have maximum exposure (building medical offices).
FYI, I'm a general contractor but I want to avoid the stereotypical framing square, saw, hammer type logo that almost every contractor has.
Again, thanks.

I am deciding between logoloft, logoworks (as UCLAhater suggested), and logodesign works.
Any suggestions as to which "package" to get? 2 designers, 3, 5? How many concepts 4, 6, 8?
