After months of looking, my wife is off with a check right now to buy a horse. she has been horse-less for 5 years now and has been bugging me the entire time wanting to get one again.
So, here is Penny. She is a 3 year old quarter horse mare in training for reining. I don't know much about horses, but she is going to make my wife a happy camper.
How many other people on this board have horses?

I have been around horses my whole life. My family has 2 ranches here in Texas. My brothers and I rodeoed all through school and I went to college on a rodeo schloarship to Texas A&M. I also spent 2 years roping in the PRCA. Got burned out and came home to learn to fly and get a job. Any questions please pm me. Make sure she has a negative coggins test. The paper work is needed to ride at just about any kind of event that is not private here in Texas. Don't know about the other states.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
Ericka just corrected me. I spelled her name wrong. It's Penney.
And I already asked if we could put a WCF type logo on the horse blanket and she agreed. Penney's official name is: Triple Play Remedy. So I think we put "Triple Play" going down on the cross and "Remedy" going accross.
This is some funny shiat.

Talk to Linda Fitton or Linda Cooper @ rolling hills stables.
There are some consignment barns in the OC that you could look at. You could probably get the numbers from those girls.
Remember it costs the same to keep a shitter as it does to keep a really nice animal.
Don't buy anything too young for your kid unless she's a helluva rider. Get a 12-15 year old babysitter. Less trips to the ER that way.
Used car salesmen learned their craft from horsetraders. Be wary.
Spend a couple bucks to get a vet check pre purchase exam, especially if you are spending more than 8K.
That 12-15 year old packer may not be as sound as the 3 year old, but if it does its job you can do a lot with good shoeing and some meds.
Let the kid work her way up to a high powered horse.
I will always give free advise to fellow Hot Boaters.
Sorry for the hi-jack.

when I got divorced the ex got the horses, i got the boat. I won. think of all the gas you could buy. hay aint cheap and them fockers eat evry day. YOu could supplement it by selling mulch. now ya need a stable barn tractor. I bet gregs 1050 horses wont eat as much fuel as that hay burner

Two horsies living on our property.
22 year old half Arabian / half Thorobred --- daughter's horse.
16 year old Quarter horse --- wifey's horse.
Both are awesome horses. My daughter is 9 and her horse is perfect for her to gain confidence on. He (her horse) has the 'been there, done that' attitude.
Good luck with Penney...open your wallet and just start nodding your head now when they start talking about I need this reign, this saddle, this doohickey for it's legs, blah blah blah. :)

Got that right 4 here; down from 12 (yes 12).
I bet I'm the only focker on the lake with a chunk of gel missing from - yup, a damn horse bite. Bastards decided to send me a message one day - get your boat out of our barn or else....

I've managed to negotiate putting off a horse trailer purchase for a while. Since Penney will be in training, we won't need to transport her. Plus, we live in town and don't have room for a horse at home. until we move out to the country at least. This is not my wife's first horse, she she already has a lot of the tack and reins and such. she needs to buy a saddle, but the trainers are going to let her use their's until she finds one that she likes. Plus, she makes more money than i do, so i'll be looking to her for gas money for the WCF this summer. she can take care of the horse items without cracking my wallet.
