The funny thing is, I got this exact shirt from my dad (still a local cop to this day, 33 years) when I got my job........him and I would go back and forth when I was 12 or 13 about what I should do when I grow up....he said " You like going to the river, right??? You should become a fireman." I wasn't up to the pre-teen preaching but I am glad I wised up years later.
He still preaches to this day he would've shot me if I became a cop.
If I wasn't dragging hose......I would've followed in his steps

Question for the Firefighters, do some of the departments not allow you to become involved in physical altercations on duty?
The reason I ask is I was on an "assist the F.D." call one night and my partner and I ended up fighting a naked Samoan on PCP in the middle of the street while 5-6 Firefighters watched from there trucks. After the incident they actually made some Rodney King comments because of the use of batons on the guy. I was kind of pissed and did not talk to them after the incident, but it sure would have been nice to have a couple extra guys to help restrain the guy.

If we are on scene and something goes down, we do not have a policy about Not helping PD.( we just like to see them get their ass kicked for a while and then stroll on over and put the cuffs on the suspect ourselves. :yuk: ) We do have a policy about not rolling in until the scene has been cleared if a weapon is involved. We do not carry weapons or wear bullet proof vests.

Havasu Cig,
don't even get me started on this. The LAFD captain told the Hollywood Div. captain when asked this question (several firemen sat and watched a cop get his neck brokern during an altercation/they did'nt even broadcast the officers needed backup on their city radios that share the SAME frequency!): "We (LAFD) don't want to have the same perception by the public as you (LAPD).
The firemen got some kind of reprimand, probably a write up. Needless to say, I still roll when they request a backup but that incident sucked, no two ways about it. No doubt, they have their duties and I have mine, but if one of us is losing the fight and you (fire guy) see it, do me a favor and press the radio talk button and tell them to send me back up. I don't think it's too hard to do. Hopfully that won't take too much time out of your day/LOL.

Well, considering my current "customers" are all child molesters, I'm a little to old for them. Funny story: I was a brand new boot at my first Dept, FTO called in sick so I rode w/ salty old Sgt. He proceeds to take me to a "gentlemens club" for a "Bar Check". Unknown to me, he had a 35 working there. We walk in and the chick is all over me. She ask me to use my PR24 for a stage prop. Off course I'm white as a ghost, not knowing what to do. Sgt. orders me to "Loan" it to her. She takes it on stage and proceeds to do all kinds of ungodly things to herself w/ my "stick" then hands it back. Later found out it was the Sgt's way of initiated the new guys.

I have tried to stay out of this cop/fireman bashing and will continue to do so because our city is so messed up we have to get along and stick together. I have on many occaisions backed up cops and have slammed a few "patients" that were outta control because we don't have enough cops out there to cover themselves let alone us. We're all in this together.
Lowriver, don't go blamin' all firefighters 'cuz some lame ass comment (backed up by his inaction) by one FD Captain got you all fired up. I'm sorry about your comrad, but we all don't feel and act this way. Man, we're in this together because we have to deal with the scuzz of the earth at all unGodly hours, 365 days a year. It is what we have in common. So you can bet your last nickel that if we ever meet up and you ever get into it, I got your back (for what's it worth) and we'll go down together.

First off,
I've NEVER had ANY issue with fire guys here or anywhere else. Two of my river buddies are Pasadena FD and well, lets just say we've gotten into altercations together off duty/lol.
That being said, I have NO problem WHATSOEVER with a FD not getting involved with me or any officer who is in an altercation anywhere. What I DO have a problem with IS if my city's FD guys see an officer in a confrontation and it appears the officer needs help, get on the damn city radio to dispatch and say Officer needs help at such and such. LAFD knows how to do this.
This is what happened:
Two Hollywood cops are on lunch at a restaurant. Man and woman drive by and woman (recently arrested/released drug offender) tells her husband that those two cops are the ones who arrested her last time. Husband (ex con), parks car, enters restaurant, walks up to officers and begins yelling at them to stop harassing his wife. Cops tell him to leave as he's making a scene. After continued yelling, cops stand up , fight is on. One of the cops gets tossed over table and has two vertabrae broken in his neck (he's now out of the fight). Other cop in prolonged slug/ground match with the suspect. Mind you, both cops are 6'2, 220lbs., Susp. 6'1, 200.
All the while, ON VIDEOTAPE, Several on duty fireman are sitting in a booth in SAME restaurant watching. One even is seen adjusting his seating position to get a better view.
Once again, I HAVE NO PROBLEM with the FD not getting involved physically, that's not their job. I DO HAVE A PROBLEM with none of them getting on their city radio that has OUR FREQUENCY and requesting a backup. It WAS NOT TOO MUCH for them to do.
A fellow operator in my unit knows the injured officer and verified the story.
That's it. So let it be known LowRiver is not anti FD, just pissed at this one incident. I just backed FD two nights ago. That IS part of MY JOB.
