Subject: Chevrolet Sales Results – 2005 CY
We did it! Chevrolet is AmericaÂ’s #1 selling vehicle. Thanks to your
outstanding efforts, Chevrolet sold more vehicles than any other brand in
the industry for the 2005 calendar year. Please accept my heartfelt
congratulations and gratitude for all you did to secure the sales
“championship” for the bowtie division.
Your efforts, especially during the later part of December, were
phenomenal. In December 2005, Chevrolet posted an industry-leading 231,628
total sales. This total edged out Ford Division by 8,304 deliveries for
the month of December and ensured our victory. For the 2005 calendar year,
Chevrolet sales totaled 2,669,932 vehicles and exceeded Ford DivisionÂ’s
total by 21,118 deliveries. Simply stated, Chevrolet is the best-selling
brand in the America for the first time since 1986.
To sum it all up, I would like to quote part of a statement made by Bob
Lund and John DeLorean explaining the outstanding sales results Chevrolet
posted in the 1971 calendar year:
“It is the result of the largest, finest network of dealers in the nation.
It is the result of the diligent efforts of many thousands of people who
make up the Chevrolet organization. But most of all, it is a result of
millions of consumers who recognized the value built into all Chevrolets.”
This statement rings just as true for our win today as it did way back in
1971. Enjoy and celebrate our big win. Please extend my sincere thanks
to each member of your team. You once again proved that Chevrolet has the
finest dealer network in America.
Sincerely,
Edward J. Peper Jr.

GM had there best year ever and there on the brink of bankruptsy. GM may have moved the most cars off the dealers lots but the profit margin was pretty slim. Hope they can keep it up.

Some of you people are never happy.... :argue:
If GM would have announced record profits and sales, you would all be pissing and moaning about how they overcharge for their product.
USC got beat, Chevy outsold Ford... it's the end of the world I tell ya... :D

They had a great year thanks to "Employee Pricing". I predict GM and Ford will have a horrible 2006. A lot of people bought new vehicles because of the incentives the U.S. automakers were offering. I think they stole a lot of sales from future auto buyers that were on the fence or planning on buying vehicles this year. Sales were way down for GM and Ford in the month of December even with the incentives they offered through the holiday season.
Here is a article from todays paper.
Ford loses top spot to Chevrolet
AUTOMOTIVE: Asian automakers saw their sales, and their market share, in the U.S. increase in 2005.
08:44 PM PST on Wednesday, January 4, 2006
The Associated Press
DETROIT - Chevrolet was the best-selling brand in the U.S. market in 2005, outpacing Ford for the first time in 19 years, General Motors Corp. said Wednesday. But that was where the good news ended for GM and other U.S. automakers, who continued to lose ground to foreign rivals.
Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. and South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. all reported sales increases of 9 percent or more for the year.
Toyota, whose U.S. sales were up 10 percent over 2004, said its Camry sedan was the best-selling car in the United States for the fourth year in a row, while its Lexus nameplate was the best-selling luxury brand.
Meanwhile, 2005 sales fell4 percent at both U.S. industry leaders GM and Ford Motor Co. while sales rose 4 percent. DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group sales rose 5 percent.
U.S. automakers also reported disappointing results for December despite a new round of holiday discounts.
GM's December sales were down 10 percent, Ford fell8.7 percent and Chrysler was down 5 percent as payback from strong summer sales continued.
Toyota's December sales were up 8 percent, while Hyundai's were up nearly 16 percent as customers snapped up the 2006 Sonata. Honda Motor Co.'s December sales were off 3 percent while Nissan's were off1 percent.
GM's sales decline for the year included a 7 percent decline in car sales and a 2 percent decline in sales of trucks and sport utility vehicles. Although Chevrolet sales slipped slightly from last year to 2.6 million, they outpaced Ford by around 21,000 vehicles thanks to strong pickup sales and enthusiasm for GM's new HHR crossover.
Ford's sales drop reflected lower consumer demand for trucks and sport utility vehicles in the face of high gas prices. Chrysler's rise for the year was due to hot-selling models such as the Chrysler 300 sedan.

Congrats to GM.. BUT I think I read somewhere that it was for total vechicles sold. Where Ford has the #1 selling pickup, sales of the F-series truck outsells Chevy and GM trucks combined. And I believe the F-series was the #1 selling vechicle sold in the world?

I think this sums it up.
November/YTD sales numbers
Ford:.........12/05........YTD

F-Series......89,491....901,463
(memo: Mark LT..1,779...15,873)

Excursion.......785......16,283

GM...........12/05.......YTD

Silverado/

Yukon........21,919.....225,763
Suburban/
Yukon XL.....13,991....140,663
(memo:Escalade..4,331..51,144)
The one battle I haven't seen much press about is this:
Total Ford Branded Sales, YTD:...........2,648,814
Total Chevrolet Branded Sales, YTD:...2,763,238
What a year. In the end, chevy gets bragging right for top selling brand, while Ford retains the largest selling pickup- which also happens to be the largest selling anything.
One of the things that did strike me was that maybe the full-size SUV market was left for dead a bit early. 496,846 customers chose Ford or GM full-size SUV's- roughly the same as bought Accords or Camrys.
A few other things caught my eye:
212,000 Cobalts, 247,000 Impala, and 203,000 Malibus found new homes in '05 (where's that Malibu biz coming from? ). The Impala is the largest selling domestic car for the 2nd year running. On the Blue Oval side, the Taurus continued as Ford's biggestr seller, with 196,000 units. The Focus (184,000) and the Mustang (161,000) were close behind. The 500 captures 102,000 sales- assuming most of those Taurus buyers will switch next year, it could be a heckuva battle with the Impala.

A large % of those went to daily rental fleets and the manufacturer's buyback programs.

From what I understand the GM corp is banking on the 07 Tahoe and sub to bring them back into the green for the 06 calender year......
