Checked our old houses values on Zillow.com, geez what a beating. First house in La Canada, paid $28,000 1968, sold in 1977 $87,000, now selling for $846,200--- 2nd house in Leucadia, paid $124,000 1978, sold in 1979 $167,000, now selling for $1,045,348--- last house in Lake Forest paid $128,000 1979, sold in 2002 $468,000, now selling for $834,287. Real Estate advice, KEEP IT IF YOU CAN  I'm gonna go throw up now :( NSF

No reason to be irritated....you probably sold them for good reasons at the time - and you made a reasonable profit. Also, you drive a nice boat...

I did that with a couple of properties that my Grandparents once owned in the Coronado Cays..... They sold the properties in 1967 and moved to La Mesa. Both properties are now valued at $4.3 Million....
They did buy there home in La Mesa with cash in 1967..... $19,000! We just sold it for $525K 2 months ago.

You also have to remember that those are not inflation-adjusted values.....comes out to a lot less when you factor that in....

Waaa waaa waaa. At least you had a piece of property that you made a ton of money off of. Trying being a first time buyer like me. I don't have the luxury of having 300k that I made of another house to roll into something new.

Zillow.com is usually pretty far off from actual values. It us usually extremely low. Those prices you posted are probably below actual market value....LOL
It says my house is only worth 400k, and if someone could find a house in my neighborhood under 485, I would be surprised.
The one I found to be the most off, was my parents. It says there house is worth only 575k. The cheapest house for sale right now in their area is right around 800k!!!!!!! :rollside:
Im not quite sure why it seems to be so low. I would like to know if it is off in other areas of the country as well.

Whos crying  Not me, although you should be if you're a first time buyer! Point was its amazing what the market looks like when you go back in years, the house in Leucadia was a tract house, nice but still tract housing and sold for about $100,000 new in 1975, now worth $1,000,000 or so. Dont get me wrong, I have done very well with houses we've sold, at the time it was nice profits for sure. Good luck in coming up with a down stroke :D NSF

There are tract houses all over selling for that kind of money now.

Yes I know that but a tract house built in the 70's didn't have nearly the amenities of later houses. Hell, Shady Canyon right off the 405 before El Toro is now considered a tract and the prices there, whew, way over the million mark.
This was just a thread to compare things from years ago, dont everybody go ballistic on my ass OK, geeze :rollside: NSF

Once you sell there is no reason at all to look back, nothing you can do about it. It was a good deal for you at the time, and everybody was happy then. so no reason to get all bent now...nothing you can do bud.

Zillow.com is WAYYYYY off here in San Diego. It is usually HIGHER than what it is worth. I had a condo for sale for $299k that just wouldn't sell and Zillow.com said it was worth $485k

Zillow is a joke.... The best way to check what things are worth is to get a list of recent closing from a realtor or go to realtor.com and search what things are selling for in the neighborhood.

Comps are the only legit way to know. Like I stated above they are either way low or way high.

My grandfather worked on the oil wells in Signal Hill when they first started drilling . One day a saleman came up at break trying to sell lots on the hill . They chased him out of there saying nothing on that hill was worth a $ 1.50 a lot . Now there are houses everywhere .

"Zillow" has some problems. It says our house in Northridge Calif. is 2300 square feet, when it is actually 2800 feet @ $805. (corrected @ $760) It also says or house in Havasu is 1780 feet, when it is 1910 feet @ $398. (corrected @ $350) It often has incorrect information about the number of rooms and footage, so the $$$ figures seem to be a 'little' off. In Havasu, "the local comps" are often BS. One side of the street has no lake view and the other side has a 180 degree view of everything. We have had offers and appraisals on a few of our lots vary over 100%. How can one realtor say "$195" for a lot and another say "$395 for the same lot? Wishfull thinking? Arm twisting? or just BS?
