New engine costs?

Hey does anyone have the breakdown on new engine/drive packages when purchased froma manufacturer?
Merc 496HO $$ (usually standard)
Merc 525 - how much is the package/upgrade
Ilmor 550
Ilmor 625
Merc 600
Merc 700
Merc 1050 (I think this one is 100K)

Hallett's website list these prices for their 27V and 28.5 deckboat
496 to 496HO = $4600
496 to 525efi = $22000
496 to 600sci = $32000 :220v:

The whole marine engine cost thingy drives me crazy. Wonder how its possible that the 500hp ls6 for my desert car is only 10K with injection and exhaust.
Or this?? Cant imagine that Shafiroff is gonna jack the price 50K for a cam and tolerence change.

isnt a LS6 a small block? i think the cost of sandcar motors are down because they are basically vette stock motors shipped where a marine motor is totally different.
The only tip i have from a builders perspective is that the 525 is worth the coin, you get a all the goodies, XR drive etc. 496Ho? ehhh might build a stock 502 carb and save some cash for the XR drive upgrade.
For the cost of a 600-700 Merc set ups? its totally up to you. You can get a great Teague, GT, Pfaff etc EFI motor and a decent drive for the same price, maybe less.

Just using the small block as an example. That particular motor is going in a heavy desert car. We'll see how it takes the abuse.
