Should I Buy Used Or New ......

I would look at the used market first, there is a lot of nice and well taken care of boats, specially here on HB. More bang for the buck going used, but it is also real cool to pick out your colors and options. Good luck on what ever you decide.

Guess that would depend on the product....Boat or car.....I would buy used....and let someone else take the depreciation hit....
If you were talking condoms......I would stick with....... new.... :p

Should I Buy Used Or New ......
First Boat = Definaltey used even if only for a season or two. You don't want to be a rookie in a new boat. Plus you'll want to upgrade about 3 more times in the next 10 years. If we did it all over again, I'd bought used the 1st 2 boats, then new once we got our rhythm about 5 years in.

I think it also makes a difference on how long you plan on owning. If you think you can keep it long term than wouldn't new be ok, but if you will be selling in a year or two I think the depreciation would kill you.

Here is my idea of buying Used v New. My first boat was a 1992 Monterey 206 Runabout. The reason I bought used is because I wanted somebody else to do the initial dock damage to the boat and I still needed to learn how to drive a boat well enough to not sink it.
Although I had experience with larger boats(Daytona 28), I still didn't want to end up scratching a high performance boat with great gel.
I got great driving experience with my first boat which prepared me for the boat I have now which is my 27' Dana.
The only thing that I really think that you miss by buying a used performance boat is the picking of colors, otherwise, buy a used boat with colors you like and you'll enjoy it just as much.
From here on out, I'd rather buy used....I'd be able to get a larger engine and more boat for the price. Too bad I'm not buying a DCB next because there a no used boats of the next one I'm looking at buying.

I think Matt lowered it. This boat is very clean. Monster stereo, solid 496 mag.

Wow. That boat must sit really low in the water now. I thought it was already low. :)

How much money do you want to spend? I have a 2005 29 shockwave I'll be selling soon with the best of everything on it. You'll save about 15-25 k over buying new.
Hare's a couple of pics.

No question. Unless you just need to burn some cash, buy used. Most hot boats are well taken care of, and if you shop well, you get more for the money. I saved a ton buying used, and while I have put some money into it, I'm still WAY ahead of the game. Leaves me money for my other hobbies, winter sports, traveling, other real investments, etc...
I don't have the most tricked out, trendy graphics, but don't really need them. Also, I bought a Lavey, which I know is a well built boat. Some of the others, I might not have been so interested.
To each his own. Good luck.

If we were to do it over again I would by used for sure. You can get allot more for your money. FYI there is a 04' 26 Lavey that my brother was looking at that has a Whippled 525efi, XR Drive/ITS...almost every option Avail. and has 32 hours. He started at 90k+ and is down to 75k. The only kicker is the boat is up in Lake Tahoe. He sent pics and its in perf. cond. and stored in a temp controlled garage. PM me for his contact info if your interested. You can find allot of nice used low hour boats.

Gotta go used first "learners boat", then new. How esle would you really know what you want if you aren't out there for a season or 2 first.

If you're buying a custom boat, and you want it for this summer, you will almost have to buy used.
If you were to have a boat built, kiss this summer goodbye.

If he is looking at something that is 47k, I doubt he wants to spend over 50k for a boat.

Ditto! We had a good first boat... learning boat :D This time around though we bought used, low hours, just what we wanted and the price we wanted... next  there's a few 26' deck boats coming our way to decide on in a few years... :D Glad we bought our 1st two used though... haven't regretted it a bit!
