im wondering if anyones run into the problem im having now that i added a small scoop.i purchased a daytona with the engine exposed.for a little cleaner look and to protect my engine i put a scoop on the cover.now my brain got kicked back in gear on my way to the water. i noticed the engine cover bouncing around.i ran my hatch actuator all the way down but my hatch still lifts. do i add a second actuator or pin the cover down or???? the boat is an honest and spooky 90mph boat.ild like some help.

maybe put a cover on the scoop inlet while towing.

I have a cover on my scoop when im towing, summit makes them they just fit inside and look pretty cool also, its a good idea to keep one on the boat because if you ever get caught out on the lake in a storm you can put it on and still drive back to the marina, ( Tunnel Cat Regatta 2001 ) if you were there you would know what I mean.

Pleasant cat lets hook up at the lake, like craig said there are a few of us that live in Peoria.

PleasantCat, Change your Ram style engine hatch lift over to the Dana Marine Hydrualic lifts and your problems will be solved. They pull down on BOTH sides and have much more clamping power. For a cheaper way to do it you can just add another motor driven one. However if they get out of synch then ya got problems.

Craig
02-25-2002, 06:22 PM
Yeah, I thought that might be you. Talked to Rick today, bummer about that cabinet that got in your way http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif Heard you clicked off an easy 89 mph on gps. Keep it crankin'. Hopefully I'll have mine back in a week or two.

Pleasantcat,if you go with riverdave2 idea with the danas you have to rig a clip or something in the front of the hatch to hold the hatch down i saw one of my friends lose thier hatch at over 100mph with the danas, they look cool and operate faster than the hydraulic rams but at high speeds they dont hold unless you secure it in the front, this is if you have a scoop, without a scoop they work great, its just going that fast a scoop pulls so much air in that it starts to lift the hatch and it causes some damage to your hatch and boat when you lose it at high speeds.

Pleasantcat: I agree with RD2 about the Dana dual actuators. I have them on my Carrera cat and I love them. That hatch does not move when it is in the down position. I looked in my Teague, CP, Eddie Marine and Rex catalog's but still couldn't find anyone that carries them. Greg Shoemaker at GS Marine rigged my boat and installed mine. He probably can order a set for you as well. You can reach Greg at 909-272-6060. Good luck.

Dana marine...(909)279-5005..Dana is one of the nicest guys you will meet
I've seen some guys that have latches like the one's for a car hood, mounted under the front of the hatch. You have to make an access hole under your back seat to unlock it then raise the hatch with the actuator.I have seen some clean set ups like this...JR

pleasantcat
02-25-2002, 07:39 PM
i thought about that kind of latch set up with a cable release deal but wasnt sure if that would envoke laughter or praise out on the water hehehe.it does make sense though thnkx.

I know of two Schiada's that have hatch release's like this. You can mount the handles and the latches them selves in a inconspicous place. Also a good security device. The more the better.....JR

Friend of ours has a Carrera cat with the first set of lifts Dana made. He also had to go with the latch on the hatch. I forget what kind of car its off of. Hey, it works and doesn't look that bad. You wouldn't even notice it if you weren't looking for it.
Gas tank, well, the boat's at Campbell and they're supposed to be working on it and getting me a more solid estimate together. Donnies got a job bid in Havasu Thursday and is going to swing by and see what the status is. We might go out Saturday, but we'll be bummin' a ride. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

PleasantCat, A little more cost effective way of holding down the front of your hatch is....
Take a look at an Ultra and how they do theres..
They mostly run a single electric ram, but they put two holes in the back of the back seat. With that they'll have two vinyl straps that come through and button to the seat fixture.. They then put the seat cushion over that and secure it with Velcro. It's a clean setup and you don't have to worry about your hatch coming open anymore. Not to mention it would be considerably cheaper then going any other route.

Along the same lines of what River Dave said, my last boat had a nylon strap screwed into the inside front of the hatch that hung down when the hatch was open. Inside the base of the bench seat there was a hole that was large enough for me to fit my hand through to grab the end of the hatch strap. There was another short strap screwed into the inside of the bench seat base near the hole. Both straps had plastic "life jacket" type buckles on them and all I had to do was buckle the straps together when towing.

pleasantcat, we'll be down there whatever day Donnie & Craig decide on. We're in a white 24' Vindicator vee hull sucking down gas trying to keep the cat guys in sight! The weather man tonight said only 70 degrees and breezy for Saturday, so we'll have to keep an eye on that. A few weeks ago we drove all the way down there to find it windy as all hell and turned around and drove back (Prescott Valley). See ya'.

Dammit! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/frown.gif I just looked at weather.com They say 66 degrees for Sunday. I'm not really one to tow for 1 1/2 hours to the lake if everybody (wife & daughter) is going to be cold and not so happy. I will keep checking the forcast over the next 2 days. Hopefully that forcast will be way off just like all their damn snow predictions they had for us this winter! We'll call you on Saturday afternoon and let you know.

Hey Pleasantcat or anyone,
I wondered if you can help me out. I need scoop to cover my whipple, problem is my engine cover will only allow a 28-30" long scoop for mounting. I'm of course not going to pick up any of those small hideous looking little ones. The scoop I'm about to pick up is 32"L x 8H x 16W. (Aero Mini) Aero fiberglass.com Any Ideas where else I can look? Thanks

This is in response to Craig's post about Carrera using a hatch latch to keep the hatch down at speeds. The hatch latch that is used is from a honda. I cant tell you which one but it gets throug bolted to the innerliner and hooked up to the hot/ground of the hatch actuators. It locks the hatch when it is in the down position. You have to install a small strike on the underside of your hatch, but other than that they work great. Plus you can get a manual release incase your batteries or switch dies.
