What can people tell me about the Hallett 270
Ride quality?
Build quality?
How it handles chop.
Is the cuddy cabin roomy?
Any impressions you may have are appreciated.

Big boat.
Handles rough water well
Great build quality
Tons of room.
Heavy
A bit dated in the design area.
Hallett has been around forever and build a really nice boat. You could eat off their factory floor too, it is so clean.

Hallett 270= My dream boat
One of the classiest looking west coast custom boats on the water IMO.
They're getting a little dated looking but I still love the looks of them.

my buddy owns one and I've been out it many times. Great solid boat for havi's washing machine chop, normal sized mid cuddy, heavy boat, w/502 runs maybe 60-ish w/gas and few folks on board.

Cant you get it with twins too ?

I believe there was three available.
The 270, normal.
The 270T, which had twins (usually small blocks)
and
The 270S, which I believe is a stepped-bottom.

Hallett 270 (http://www.hallettboats.com/270-s.html) is available in either a single or twin configuration. Plus you can get it in either a step or non-stepped bottom I believe. Hallett makes great boats. Classic styling on the 270. They could do something different with their swimstep though, looks like too much of an afterthought IMHO.

Does anybody know how the boat will handle with 600hp pushing it. Is the bottom of the boat quarky or does it behave well. Are the tabs a must with the higher HP motors?

I have a 270 and love it. It isn't the fastest thing on the water but it rides great. I will admit that they are not the most Blingy(if thats a word) boat but I feel they won't go out of style like some others.

Does it have alot of room for storage in the boat? Do you have any complaints about the boat? What would you change if you could?

I've had my 270 for 5 years. Great ride, roomy, classic design, top quality, HP 500 pushes 70'ish. Whether or not you need the tabs, you get them. Lots of standard items. Click on the link from Havasu Dreamin and it'll show everything you want to know. Or better yet, visit the factory and they'll show you everything.

It has black on the ass end and it gets hotter then a mutha!! :crossx:
Seriously the only thing I don't like about it the the engine drive package(502 with a Bravo 3). Plenty of storage unless you plan on living in it.

What don't you like about that combo? Top speed too slow? Too long to get on plane? Midrange not there?

Top end! It gets on plane great, but I want more MPH. Downhill, a gallon of gas and my 2 year old daughter driving with nobody else in the boat she can hit 68! J/k
The guy I bought it from said he hit 72 but I don't believe it, the best I have gotten was 68. I love the boat, and probably buy another one next time and do it the way I want but I was rushed to get this one. Had to have all my toys before I got married so I bought this the day before! :crossx:

My dream boat as well. I have had "three foot-itis" for years now. I love my 240 but the 270 I have never heard a bad word about.

My buddy and I have a 94 and 98 closed bow 270. We have had them for a few years at Havasu and love them. Like the classic lines and the ride is great.
The closed bow provides some relief for the kids on hot days. I agree that the swim step is due for a change but it works.
Unfortunately my boat will be spending the next 9 weeks in the garage. I shattered my lower right leg three weeks ago and totally screwed my summer.
Oh well at least the lake wil be pretty quiet and a bit cooler the next time I launch.
Call Jerry Barron at Hallett if you are in the market for a used 270 as well. He usually has several people looking to upgrade with boats for sale.

We have a 240 as well and love it. Have always thought of upgrading to a 270. The swim step is a funny thing, I can remember my first thought was I couldnt wait to get it home and take it off, but after the first couple times to the lake and alot of time spent hangin out on it, I cant imagine what it would be like without it.

I would PM RiverLynchmob here on the boards. He has a 260 Hallet with a Carson Brummett twin turbo motor in it. I was in it over 90mph and the boat felt very stable and was comfortable. Real nice boat in my opinion.

I have grown up with Halletts and this is our fifth one...our third 27. They handle great, have a ton of room, even with a closed bow, we still have 8 people on board and it not too bad. Overall, one of the best boats built!!

if a stepped hull is an option, I think I would be lookin to do that for sure, its got to perform better.

I own a 270 open bow with a 502 built by Paul Pffaf dynoed @ 568 hp with 562 ft lbs torque with a stock Bravo 1 and have had no problems. I don't slam it into gear at high rpm's or jam the throttle full at take off. I have had alot of boats and this is by far my favorite. Lots of room large open bow seating area cuddy cabin works great for the kids to get out of the sun. Like everyone said it is pure classic.

My bro has one and its awsome. 1999 270s , step closed bow 502 w/whipple gps'd at 75-76 mph with half a tank and two adults ,two kids. has plenty of storage under v berth area ,1 side seat, the other side seat slides out and its along side the 12v/120v ice box. has storage shelves along the cabin walls and ski/board rack built in the cabin sides. also, under the sink along with a drawer under the ice box. His has a FULL toilet and two fresh water tanks(20 gal). 120 gallon fuel cap along with shore power on board batt charger and a charging system you plug in when your traveling( uses the tow vehicle charging system to charge batt, run lights, run FRIDGE and whatever else you leave on. would be nice to have electric bolsters but his seat pad flips up or you can remove it. The step bottom swim platform(fiberglass one piece) sits at water level however the NON step sits WAY higher.. If you a big guy/older or handicap you would have a hard time getting out of the water on a non step bottom.

Anyone looking for a closed bow old school 270 should PM burtandnancy.
He faxed me the list of work done on this boat and his buddy spent some coin on it, just not what I am looking for.

A few observations on the 270...(I have one)
The bolted on swim platform may not look as modern as the molded in type, but at least its not included in the 27 ft. The 270 is a true 27 feet.
600hp will get you into the mid 70's with no radical trimming, just a rock solid ride at that speed.
It's not a race boat, so throwing a ton more HP into it won't get you a ton more top speed.
I'd be surprised if the 470hp HP500 could get the 270 into the 70's.
All boats are a compromise. The 270 is a great family performance boat.
