What have your experiences been? Almost time to make the decision for the new boat. I like to rpm on the Ilmor but not the 92 octane? requirement. Give me your personal use pro and con please.
Thanks

However the ilmor makes up for it in 35% better fuel economy that the mercruiser engines and it weighs less than the 600 SCI by almost half not sure the weight on the 525 but the ilmor is 800 lbs and i think the 600 SCI is somewhere in the 1500 lb range. So what boat you checking out, if you havent made a decision yet I definetly recommend checking into the Adrenaline boats, well be bringing one out here in January with a single ilmor in it, should do 85-90 not bad for a single 30ft boat. Check them out at www.adrenalinepowerboats.com or www.sicklifts.com.

That's a huge weight advatage for sure! Who knows the weight on the 525?
Does the Ilmor REALLY get that better mileage? As far as the boat goes, the new deck is already under construction and I haven't caught "big boat fever" yet. I'm going 25'.

Adrenaline does alot of work with Ilmor the company and mercruiser and they seem to feel that the ilmor does way better on gas mileage and that the specs show 35%. Well Adrenaline makes a 24 aswell and an ilmor in that would run you about 90-95 mph at least it does 77 mph with a 496 HO, check it out when your ready for an upgrade let me know.

You might want to consider one of our H0600 Raylar 496's. We start with a stock 496mag engine and prepare a whole new forged internal hand built "blueprinted" 496 that with its headers, reporgrammed ECM and full accessories dynos between 616-625 horsepower at 5200 rpms and runs on 89 pump gas with nearly 100 ft/lbs more torque than the Ilmor and a sticker price considerably less than the Merc 600sci motors. Just some food for thought. check out our new webpage at www.raylarengine.com for before and after info.

I am running a low hours built for a blower motor now on 87 Octane and have considered putting it in the new boat but want the dependability of a factory motor. What is the cost of your 600/700?

That’s still 300lbs, I could get two more regular size girls or one large size in my boat and still run the same speed. :rollside: :) :rollside:

When will the new boat be ready, Rick?
Let's see, June 2006 was the first goal. I am hoping it will be done by early October at this point but more likely will run into the winter before getting it in my hands.

Good man! Bob will be proud! :)
When comparing weights, make sure you're looking at apples/apples. A fully dressed iron big block with all the accessories, Bravo, gimbal, and exhaust ready to install is around 1100 lbs. For the GM big block V8s, an aluminum block will save you around 125 lbs, aluminum heads+intake another 100 or so. Since it's all aluminum, I'd believe the V10 to be 250, maybe 300 lbs lighter than a Merc motor. You know, about the same weight as a fat guy on the back of the boat!

I understand it to be almost 500lbs difference.
I just can't buy that. Let's say an iron big block v8 weighs 700 lbs with no accessories, exhaust, or drive. That's a pretty close estimate I think. 500 lbs less would mean the v10 weighs in at 200 lbs... Not bad for an 500+ ci motor!

I heard that the block is around 200lbs. and the blower is around 100lbs. give or take a few pounds.

Direct from the Merc website. The 525 comes in at 1201 LBS and the 600 comes in at 1267 LBS.There is a 400 to 467 Pound difference from the Ilmor motors to the Mercs.

Not true! Once or twice a year a college friend of my daughter's comes out with her finace and he weighs about 300, but then he loans his girl to for the weekend also as a fee! :rollside:

Let's face it, when you are running that kind of torque, 300 lbs is only a what? a fraction of one mph?? To my way of thinking the real advantage speed wise if any of the Ilmor would be the increased operating rpm range.
