I am thinking of heading up and staying in a comp room at the Green Valley Ranch Resort and launching out of Calville. Anybody else want to go and hit Mead?

I may be interested in heading up there--I'd stay with friends in Boulder City! I love MEAD :) We'll have to see how the AMEX gas bill is looking come August

Mead is great Huge body of water, except when the wind blows. Love going there and staying at the Fiesta Henderson Casino.

Hey Tom, that sounds pretty good.... I need to check with Vicki and see when school starts back up for her... Remind me at the regatta (early so I am not drunk yet!) You are going to the regatta right?

I was actually thinking about doing a trip out there that weekend and maybe staying through Tuesday or Wednesday. I have not been out to Mead since I was a kid and I remember the last time I went with my folks years ago, the wind was blowing like hell and we didn't even end up launching the boat. I want to try it out though. I'm kinda burned out on the crowds at Havasu and want to try something different. Where is the best place to launch and should I have any worries being out there in my 24' boat?

Calville is a nce launch ramp nice docks a bit of a hike for who ever is parking the truck and trailer. We launch there all the time with no issues other than the newbies and lake lice.

Well, we will be launching out of Calville. Post a pic of your boat and we will keep an eye out for you. Of course this one is a Monday-Thursday timeframe
Boat is in my signature we usually are at swallow cove or sandy cove.

Well....I will be out and I thought I would refresh this and see what the scoop was for any of you Lake Mead boaters. I will be staying at the GVR and launching at Calville. Probably be on the water Tuesday & Wed....
You might want to consider somewhere else to launch. I asked over in Hot Spots West and I was told not to use Calville. Panic Button said he was out there last weekend and he said it is not useable anymore. I'm going to launch at Lake Mead Marina. I'll be out on the water Monday and Tuesday. Maybe Sunday depending on when I get in town.

Lake Mead Marina is fine except for some of the idiots that launch there. We have launched out of there at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks.
Calville is getting real shallow, and Hemingway is a prop killer as well.

I would try launching from the right side of the dock. Water is shallow but I havn't had any problems with my Tahoe dunkin' the trailer in to float the boat. If I wasn't busy I would join you. Maybe I could ditch. :crossx: The marina has a store, gas, and restaurant if needed. Hope this helps.

Let me rephrase that, as you are looking out to the water backing in the trailer. I have launched from both sides but I just prefer that side more to the other. :rollside:

So are you facing it or looking over your shoulder while backing up? lol
Lake Mead Marina? When you are looking down the ramp facing the water, you want the right side. The left is very shallow.

Hopefully there will be a few less idiots out there on Monday & Tuesday.
I haven't been on Mead since I was a kid. I'm really looking forward to heading out there.
