I recently purchased a double step Daytona 25 with a HP500EFI / 1.36:1 Bravo. If anyone has experience with this set up and has tips on squezing a little more out of it let me know. It barely passes 80 on the speedo at 4600rpms spinning a Bravo One 26.

Have you tried a different prop (24)to get the rpm up closer to the limit? 80 isn't bad for a stock set up! The two step 25's are supposed to be a little slower then the single step. Supposedly the twin step was conceived to get rid of the mid range porpoise the singles have. My friend has a single step 25, he can just drive through it. Quits acting goofy at about 80.

I know its pricey, but what about trying 1.5 gears vice the 1.36 with the same prop? I usually don't see guys going to 1.36 gears until they run out of prop. Maybe I'm out to lunch.
On a completely different topic, how does the boat ride in rough chop? I'm trying to figure out whether my next boat will be a cat or a V.

I think you are close to the rev limiter of at 4600 and for your hp, the 80 is respectable. Have you sent your prop to be worked on? It can give you 200 rpm more for about $100 and a mph or two.
Try a 24, but you'll probablly just get a better holeshot and really bump the limiter. Put a Whipple on it and you'll be about 95.
Trash, the ride in a 25 Daytona (or others cats) is a dream. I love choppy water now. Big, but not to big, by todays growing standards. Mine stops at 85, or when my wife starts hitting my arm.

I thought the HP500 rev limiter was closer to the 5100 rpm ballpark...any way..
Duck, thanks for the ride info. Have you ever had your cat in that nasty 2-3 foot stuff that builds up with good winds on Mead or Mohave? Can you still comfortably cruise at say 40-50 mph and do so safely? I'm just curious cause like I said I'm looking for a boat I can make it back home if I'm stuck out in the nasty stuff.

I thought the rev limit on an HP500 was about 5400 rpm. If you look at a lot of the boat tests, they're all usually pushing that.
I'll agree with Duck on the 25 Eliminator, a friend of mine has one and it takes the rougher stuff great. Quite a difference from his old 22 or my 22 Advantage cat.

I have a 97 25ft 1 step 7.4 300 Daytona
I use it at the Lake of the Ozark
At 4400 rpm with 23 in prop 64.5 mph gps topin
Handles good on rough water
Porpose on calm water
Very happy with boat uses about 12 gal

I would suggest having your prop lab finished by mercury. I have a 2000 twin step, and gained 300 rpm and 5mph!
Love the hull -works great in lake mead rough stuff.

I had a 25' you'll run closer to your rev. limiter (s/b around 55/5600 ) with 1:50 'S and 26" prop mine had a 540 and would hit 95mph on gps

i would try a shortened drive i have heard that the twin step 25 daytona's have a low x-dimension
i put a couple of these on older eliminator tunnels and picked up 8-10 on each one

Hi jsblendorio
Normally a HP500 would require a 1:5 drive unless you were planning on making a change later on, (Whipple, Procharger...etc) Our Boats with a 1:5 requires either a 30 lab or a reg 28. Typically an American Offshore with a HP500 will run upper 80's box stock at Sea Level. With the 1:36 drive you might want to try a 24 like Craig and Duck suggested, The limiter is 5200, or at least get your 26 labbed. Keep the 1:36 for future upgrades.
Trash as far as ride is concerned, Cats love chop, on our American Offshore 26's the rougher the better, but as the name implies, we're built for rough water, we are still running the single step (have been for the past 10 years, if it ain't broke... don't fix it)no porpoise in rough or glass at any speed, We're currently testing one in the low 130mph range and the boat is still steady, naturally at that speed we like the water a little calmer (1 - 1.5 chop)
Best of luck to you in your setup, give us a call if we can help with props, we have them all in stock and will do all we can to help regardless of the make!
