Do you leave your air conditioner on in Havasu if your not there? I leave my air set at 90 degrees, or do you just leave the ceiling fans on?

Speaking as a builder, homeimprovement contractor, and a current havasu resident who used to be part-time. I wouldn't let it get over 90, it's just hard on everything. If you do and you notice some different smells when you come in, that is out gassing from the carpeting, furniture and even paint. Cabinets will dry out, you'll get more drywall cracking, and all those caulked trim joints around the doors will start to seperate. Letting it get higher then 90 doesn't effect the home structurally, but it does create more maintainance. My house has an evap cooler piggybacked on the ac, so I'd leave the evap set on 85, then change it over to AC when we got into town. FOr the part timers a trick you might not know, before you leave the house, pour a cup of vinegar into each toilet, it'll keep you from getting the hard water rings even if it evaporates a little.

Thanks for the input. I also leave a couple of buckets of water in the house to help retain the moister.

I was leaving mine at 90 but it took to long to cool off when I got into town. Now I leave it at 85, takes a 1/4 of the time to get comfortable now.

You guys should run swamp coolers when youre away.
1/10 the cost.
Even on super humid days it helps some with circulation.

Swamp Cooler is the only way for long periods of away time. Cuts electric from dollars per day to cents per day and adds some moisture (in normal times)

We leave ours at 86, so far our electic bills are not bad at all. About a 1/4 of what I pay in Cali during the summer months

like most who have posted, we keep ours at 90. we usually arrive at havasu at night, turn the temp down to 72 and kick on the ceiling fans. the house temp usually drops down pretty quickly.

We leave it on at 90 also, have had no problems yet, but the garage where the boats sits feels like it's about 150 degrees when we get out there!!! :yuk:
