It's looking real creepy out there...I love it. I think it's going to hit hard.
At least it was a perfect day on the lake.

that seems odd, usually it comes from the other direction

OMG we hit it or it hit us coming into Needles tonight. The front windshield of the truck looks like it was sand blasted. Sounded like someone was throwing rocks at the truck. :yuk:

Great lightning show last night, but didn't get the rain or wind that was threatened. It was beautifull, and we sat outside until late watching the show.

My sons and I sat out in the desert last night in Ft. Mohave and were counting about 200 strikes a minute...BIG rain too
I think I saw that strike in the picture...

What was really cool about watching this lightning storm, and I had never seen before, was watching some of the lightning that went from the ground up, and into the clouds. Intense. It was like watching a fireworks show. There was intense periods, and then it was like it was reloading and paused for a little bit, and then the whole sky would light up again.
Can't wait for the next one.

Spectacular photo. It's not easy catching them on film like that. You've clearly developed the timing skills. Very cool. :220v:

All my lightning photos are used with my 4 year old Olympus C-5050 5 mexapixel digital camera. No film. It's a awesome camera and has worked great from day one. My next camera will be another Olympus!

it's easy to do, you have to have a camera that has the ability to leave the shutter open for a amount of time.

I tried the shutter speed thing the other night and captured some lightning, but the pictures were still blurry. Do you custom program your shutter speeds? If so, what settings do you use?

set your camera to manual focus (infinity) also put your f-stop around 4.5. Try that and it should work.

We were in Needles for that storm and holy crap! I have never seen so much lightning for so long....It was unbelieveable....I thought to myself..."I hope RiverRatMike is getting good shots of this...."LOL...We lost power during dinner at the local mexican restaurant, and came outside to a total sandstorm surrounded by lightning...It looked like Poltergeist, with lightning 360* all around us...then came the rain...We sat on the porch and watched for over 2 hours....Mother nature at her finest...Sunday at lunch we saw the little roof over the gas docks at Topock was blown over and is sitting in the water...I hope nobody's boat was sitting there on Friday night...It would have been totaled! :220v:
