The kids are getting bigger and we think its time to get a dog to join the family.
Don't want any aggressive breeds or real big dogs since our boat is only 20.6.
Any HB hookups?

Hit the shelters, there are litterally hundreds of "good" dogs that need homes and will be killed if not adopted. Every dog I've had is a stray or from a shelter and not a bad one in the bunch. Just got one a couple days ago in fact and it's very sad the number of "good" dogs some even with tags that the owners just abandon. my .02

In the spam section they are selling boxer puppies....GREAT dogs! If it were me, I would get a female. They are GREAT with kids. We have a female boxer and a female great dane...both wonderful, but the great dane will NOT fit too well on a 20.5 ft boat. Boxers are medium sized. Ours loves to play in the water too. Good luck!

We just got a chihuahua and she is great. We took her on the boat and she loved it. We take her everywhere, my kids are 10 and 12 so they are very good about taking care of her--it is a very good age to get a puppy. Whatever you get do a little research so you don't make a hasty decision.
There are too many unwanted animals out there.

We've been scoping out the shelters too.
Unfortunatly there is a TON of what I'd consider aggressive or crosses of that type at the county shelters in my area. Kinda sad.

Dont buy into the stereo type on the aggressive dogs. "Those" dogs are born as a blank slate. While some dogs may have a propensity to be aggressive, it takes abuse to bring it out. I've got two pits and they are the best dogs I have ever had. Awesome around kids, and have a good bark for keeping strangers away. Do some research, most of the "family dogs" are more likely to bite than anything in the pit family.

Be careful taking the kids to the kennel , you might come home with 2 dogs . 1 for each . Our last 4 dogs have come from shelters & have all been great family members . Alot of shelters have their animals on-line also

What area are you in? My best friend works for Mission Viejo Animal Services and will hook you up with the straight scoop on a rescue from there. They always have great dogs. I also have a friend here in the 951 who has 9 Katrina rescue dogs........they might be willing to part with one, or two......or three. :)

Yep, it is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best around. The fact that they are no kill is a great thing also. http://www.***boat.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif http://www.***boat.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif

True dat but we go in the rv with the boat and a lot of places won't allow you to camp with "aggressive" breeds.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER!
Can't say enough about them. They are a wonderful dog.
Large but if you get a female they are about 20lbs less then
the males. Ours is truly a best friend to our 10 year old!

We should have labs ready to go around Christmas time, and our female is about 65#, but probably still too big for what you are looking for.
Had to throw it out there, just in case :D

We just got Harley last Friday at the Riverside Humane Society rescue. Very clean place. $108 includes Spay or neuter, flea treatment, collar, leash tag and a bag of dog food. Great deal. They have a website with photo's.He was crate trained and house broken. 8 months old and 60 pounds. He is a Burmese mountain dog and part tasmanian devil. He hasn't stopped running since we got him home.Found out Burmese mountain dogs are in the Saint Bernard family. :2purples:

Thanks for all the input. We got a breeding pair of AKC'd Papillions. They are doing great. We just took them and the kids in the RV for a week at the Islander. They were in the boat and out swimming every day. The bitch has had 1 litter and we will probably let them breed one more time. They love their new life. Stay tuned for some pups sometime in the future. :)

If you are still looking for a dog, check out www.havasuchihuahuas.com for some cute little Chihuahuas.
We love them. That is why we are breeding them. Just had a new litter last night, 1/20/07. They will be ready to go to new homes in 8 weeks.
Hope you find what you want. Dogs are great.
