I thought they were behind the pace boat doing 70-80mph....but I wasn't there so I wouldn't know..... :)
We can all spout off, about this and blame all the big fast boats for our insurance rates going up...what about all the accidents throughout the year that don't involve big fast boats (I guess they don't count...?){or just not big enough targets?}
No panty bunch here, thankfully nobody was killed!

Say it aint so i geard you can drive them big boats at 120 drinking a beerbong, driving past or submerging potatoechip boats, cause they drive very straight and safe and no hands on the wheel while taping it.
all jokes aside boat accidents are not a good thing being a dragboat driver i hate to see race related crashes esp with injuries good thing no one hurt

helmets arent required from what I can see,but look at the hatch on that one boat, why does no one wear a helmet?Sure it might look silly, but during the event I would think its a good idea. But what do I know,I have a deck boat :rollside:

Make sure you hold on to that extra 100 bucks, you might need next year at the B2B.

Those are inflatables.
We wear them, although ours are auto-inflating, heavy duty tactical vests. Run around 2 bills each.
While they're better than nothing, they aren't recommended for high speed operation. Contact with the water at anything over 60 MPH or so will rip them from your body. Unless they're the auto kind, you have to pull the the rip cord to inflate them.
Kinda hard to do if you're unconscious.

I have been away from the boards for a few days... What is the story on this accident... looks like everyone was very lucky not to have gotten hurt (or did they?)

A life jacket like that and a lot of hair spray, will protect your body and head. Plus it will give the scuba diver a nice strap to grab when he recovers your body off the bottom.

boatcop you are right and they are the auto inflate type. we did wear them because of the comfort and havent had to test them yet........ you notice one person had the lifeline on because there were only 4 of those inflatable types...
I wont argue the safety issue as the lifelines are obviously a better choice, and I did think about this after(a little late if needed) that I would rather be in the water with my lifeline with leg straps then wonder what wouold have happened if i was thrown out with these on....... no excuse i agree
and greg im glad you have those high performance jackets..... thats one less thing youll have to buy once you get a high performance boat :argue: :p

If your going over 90. Here is three things you need. In this thread I see a lot of million dollar boats with ten cent safety gear. If you guys keep playing like this it's going to cache up with one of you soon. Look at this accident as a wake up call please.

OFFSHORE JACKET:
is designed with built-in "Flak-type" ?impact material to give extra protection to the chest, ribs, kidneys and back. "Flak" material is scientifically engineered to disburse loads caused by sudden impact; thus reducing the potential for injury.

Head and neck support:
Allows ample rotation for unrestricted side and rear vision. No special special helmet or jacket model required-will adapt to existing helmets with only minor modifications.??

SAFETY PANTS:
Guards against potential injuries caused by extreme water pressure and velocity. Made of 1000 Denier Cordura Nylon exterior and multiple layers of ballistic nylon interior.

I have always thought it was interesting that these folks who can spend big bucks for thier boats won't spend the money on "Proper" Lifeline type life jackets rated for high speeds. I guess if i spent 100k on whatever type of hi-speed boat, whats another 1000.00 to protect all on board for those speed runs....................
True but it ends up being more than $1000. even the kids vests are 300+ each and to me it is more important for the kids to have them.

I just viewed those pictures again. And I know I've said in the past as long as everyone is ok, the boats can be replaced or repaired. And I still stand by that statement. But seeing that mess bothers me...I can't imagine how the owners feel.

If anyone has the new Extreme Boats magazine check out page 39. I think the boat that is sunk is the same boat in the Arneson surface drive ad. Bad Ass boat.
