I think year or so ago, I saw the current world reccord speed holder boat for sale. They said that if you put the current holder and all the guys who have since the 60's tried to break it in the same room ......
He'd be alone. Every one of them has been killed trying to break 300.

The first video was footage from the movie "Across The Lake" the second video was the actual footage from his run in 67.
I was reading about Donald Campbell and the K-7 crash , the video peaked my courisoty .
The crash happened in 1967 and his body wasn't recovered untill May of 01.
Tragic to say the least. :(
80 views and only one reply ? well SS at least there's two of us that enjoy a boating related topic. :)

Since the time Ken set the record back in October of 1978 two other challengers have tried to better his mark, both ending in tragic failure.
In 1980, the previous water speed record holder, Lee Taylor, tried to reclaim his title in a 2.5 million dollar boat called "Discovery II." The missile-shaped craft was constructed of aluminum, titanium and stainless steel and was powered by a rocket engine that burned hydrogen peroxide fuel. The power plant was said to generate 8,000 pounds of thrust.
The trial took place November 13, 1980 on Nevada's Lake Tahoe. Discovery II roared through its first pass at 269.85 mph and was decelerating when it appeared to hit a swell. Witnesses reported that the boat veered to the left and suddenly disintegrated, vanishing under the surface of the lake in a matter of a few seconds. Taylor’s body was found a day later still strapped into the cockpit.
Craig Arfons, a former automotive drag racing champion and a close friend of Ken Warby was the next to take up the challenge. In July 9, 1989, he put the finishing touches on a jet hydroplane called "Rain-X Record Challenger," which boasted a lightweight composite hull and a jet engine that could deliver 5,500 pounds of thrust with the afterburner lit. Arfons calculated that the boat's favorable thrust-to-weight ratio would give it a 200 percent power advantage over Warby's record-setting boat.
The record attempt took place on Jackson Lake near Sebring, Florida. Members of Arfons' crew say his boat reached a speed of 263 mph before it became airborne and began to cartwheel across the mirror-smooth lake. Arfons tried to deploy a safety parachute, but the angle at which his boat was traveling prevented the parachute from opening. Arfons was killed as his boat shattered around him. He was 39.

Lyrics
Three hundred miles an hour on water
In your purpose-built machine
No one dared to call a boat
Screaming blue
Out of this world
Make history
This is your day
Blue Bird
At such speeds, things fly
What did she say?
I know the pain of too much tenderness
Wondering when or if you'll come back again
Wanting to live for you
And being banned from giving
But only love will turn you around
Only love will turn you around
Only love
Only love will turn you around
So we live you and I
Either side of the edge
And we run and we scream
With the dilated stare
Of obsession and dreaming
What the hell do we want
Is it only to go
Where nobody has gone
A better way than the herd
Sing a different song
Till you're running the ledge
To the gasp from the crowd
Spinning round in your head
Everything that she said

I found this information in the IMDB data base.
Looks like we won't see the film anytime soon.
I never understood why this has never been released on DVD or video in the U.K. It was released on video in Austrailia and fetches very high prices in auctions.
Anthony Hopkins delivers a fantastic performance as Donald Campbell. The movie is a good attempt in covering his final days but has been spiced up for the screen. There are quite a few in-accuracies but i think that has been done to draw a wider audience rather than just the die hard Campbell fanatics like myself. This film has been scrutinised by many experts for it's inaccuracies, mainly down to the K7 Bluebird hydroplane. Wrong colour for starters.
There are 1000's of people wanting this released on DVD but all requests fall on deaf ears.
