When I used to make the drive, I-10. The never ending construction project on the 40, and now add the just starting (probably never ending) construction project in the Cajon Pass, and the 15/40 sucks.

Do you take Rice Rd or go through to Blythe and up? Seems like there have been some posts about bad experiences on Rice Rd, but I can't remember if it was Rice or a different road.

10 to Desert Center. I avoid the 15 as much as possible. The 10 is not bad once you get passed the trouble spots.

As a kid, my dad always swore by the 40....and I still believe him to this day. I have yet to have a plesant drive goin out on the 10.
the only bad part about the 40 is that youre fighting vegas trafic between barstow and your point of origination.

We have been doing the I40 and I10 both for 15 years. If we leave early enough on Friday "before 2:00 pm" we'll take the I40 to Ludlow and jump on old route 66. The road starts off kinda of rough but it beats dealing with all the construction. If we don't get on the road before 2:00 pm it's the I10 all the way. :rollside:

I think the Blythe to Arizona 95 is the overall best way. Rice is the quickest
I think there is also a way of taking California 95 just before Blythe. There is a river crossing about halfway to Vidal Juntion that is not widely advertised. I have been that way once but I'm not sure of the route. I was following a friend who travels with his job with the water district.

Take the 10 through Ehrenberg, it is about 12 miles farther than taking 10 through Desert Center, not that far out of the way to keep your family off of Rice Road.
We have a winner! Nice and smooth drive that dumps you out at the east end of Parker! I came up on a horrific accident on Rice Road one time, and have never looked back.

Is Ehrenberg the exit one would take of the 10?

Ehrenberg is AZ exit 1.
The place where everyone gets gas since it is CA tax free.
Drove it two weekends ago, the first 5 miles are slow but after that it flys. Drops you off 1 or 2 miles east of Parker.
