The diesel delivery guy accidently pumped 2,500+ gallons into the gasoline tank. Oh by the way, the tank is below ground.

We're trying to contact them right now. I also made a reccomendation of getting a 3rd party to do a test of the tank to prove it.

I had one of my guys pick up my portable welder today, and I told him to gas it up. He filled it with diesel... Shoulda seen that baby smoke. Anyway, we drained it and all's good now, although it did take a little time to figure it out.

I work for Fire. I had absolutley no hand in it. We have a vendor that comes and I guess he didn't know which tank was where. It's gonna be hell tomorrow. The tank holds 7,000+ gallons. I feel bad for the guy that made the mistake. It's not going to be easy pumping it all out, cleaning the tank, replacing the gas then repairing any of the 70+ cars that filled up.

That's a major FU. And here I thought it was bad when we switched over from gas to diesels and some of the guys filled up their brand new work trucks with 87... Had a customer with a big fleet go through the same pains... :crossx:

If you ever have a chance to pick up for free, some mixed gas/diesel

If you ever have a chance to pick up for free, grab it.
Mixed gas/diesel left undisturbed, in a month or so will settle out. I think the specific gravitys are different.
The gas will be on top with the diesel settling to the bottom.
I have taken in about 1,000 gals. over the years and had no problems.
I put it into 55 gal drums stored outside. After a month, I siphon off the gas into fresh barrels and then siphon off the diesel into more fresh barrels.
The questionable fuel,... the fuel close to the "border line" goes back into barrels to re-settle. After a month, I repeat the process.
FYI,
I had a 100 gal. fuel tank in the bed of my truck with a few gals. (2-3) of diesel in it. I needed to fill my gas tank at home which my neighbor uses when she mows my lawn etc. I figured a few gals of diesel wont hurt anything........ a few weeks later and her J D mower wouldnt run. Took about 1 hr. to figure it out. The tank had settled out..................she pumped in the 2-3 gal diesel.
Be good, Jim

First car repaired, total cost $838.00. Only the first of many to go in for repairs.

Gonna be one costly mistake when all is said and done.

Yup. They're supposedly on their way here now to pump the rest of the tank out.
