The search continues Wednesday for a man who wore a Ronald Reagan mask to rob a San Diego bank.
The robbery happened at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 6500 block of Mission Gorge Road in Grantville. After robbing a teller, the man fled the bank.
But things did not go according to plan. The suspect took off in an SUV, and crashed into two delivery trucks and another vehicle before pulling over and abandoning the vehicle.
Police later found his getaway car with evidence that ink packs stashed in the cash exploded. The suspect also dropped a $50 bill and the Reagan mask after a confrontation with one of the delivery truck's drivers.
Although the suspect was able to escape, he was caught in the act by security cameras.
Investigators hope they can track down this unusual thief.
"Just kind of above and beyond what you normally see and that might be indicative of the personality of this type of individual," said SDPD Robbery Unit Lt. Lawrence McKinney.
The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall and heavy set.
Police believe he is in his mid to late 40's and has thick black sideburns.
There was no word on how much money the suspect got away with.
