I've got nothing but good things to say about the Jeep TJ's--good rigs. Used to have one and wish I still owned it. Only thing I can think of is that if you plan to use the back seat for people hauling buy the Unlimited model.

We have an 05 Rubi Unlimited w/ 6sp and the Sahara Package. Soft top only. I could only find an Unlimited Rubi with that stupid Sahara Package in which most of the added goodies are being removed. The seats are cool though. Cruise Control and Leather Wheel...come on...it's a Jeep
Its a toy only or spare car so to speak so we dont drive it much. We wheel the piss out of it though when we do use it. We flat tow it behind our Motorhome and take it to Johnson Valley or the Sierras often.
The air lockers lockers work just fine. Axles are Dana 44's, and the xfer case is a NP241 in the Rubi (with a 4:1 low) which is a good unit. The 4.0 is very tough and a long life unit. Just dont expect any kind of decent mpg.

Not quite. I may be picking nits here, but the dana44 on the rubi's front axle tain't a full dana 44. It has a dana44 housing, carrier, ring and pinion gears, yes... but the outer axles themselves are dana30 size (27 spline). No joke. Its still a great rig. The rocktrak tcase is beefier than the np231 in a regular tj and runs a full 4:1 ratio in 4low, unlike the np231 which has a 2.72:1 or something close. Buy it, run it, smile.
I didn't feel like coughing up the cash for a rubi, so I bought a used '00 tj, lifted it, put bigger wheels/tires on, geared to 4.56 and threw a couple arb air lockers in for good measure. The onboard air system rocks too!
Cheers...

I have a 2005 rubicon that is loaded with Hard Top, Atuo, lockers, winch, Hanson bumpers, totally riged up for towing including a breaking assembly that is air operated by the air brakes on my motorhome etc. I am thinking of selling it to buy the motor for my Biesemeyer. Been offroad twice and has really low miles.

The O7 is all new....wider...taller...longer wheel base.
no longer 4.0 inline 6....it will now be a 3.8 V6. Slightly more HP and torque but takes a few more revs to get to max torque.
Current issue of Motortrend has an extensive review which is favorable.

jeeps are great fun.. i had a 67 cj5, with a 327, 4sp and an np205 tcase, not original or course. it belonged to a neighbor of mine who didn't have time or money to finish it, so i bought it and got it up and going. i like the rubicons but the wife gets to pick the next vehicle and she really wants a mini cooper S, convertible. :)

The new ones are too car-like. Lots of plastic and are going to be hard to mod for a few years until all the new R&D is worked out. The TJ is classic. I would rather have a 1997-2006 than the 07 IMO. Plus, with the new ones out you should be able to get a good deal on a 97-06 model.

I just went across the street, and bought a '90 Wrangler YJ, 6cyl, 5sp manual, 4wd, with a hard top.
Now the fun begins, I want to put a little lift on it, and some bigger wheels and tires.

Anyone know of good forums, or websites I can get information on the best way to go with a mild lift? I've seen new leafs, new shackles, body lifts, etc. and I don't know the best way to go.

1997+ don't have leafs and shackles. They are coils on all 4 corners. Best to get a long-arm kit with new coils but you can do fine with some of the standard lifts for a lot less $$. Really depends on what you are going to do with it. Most people will never need the long-arm kit.

The Revolver shackles look like a great improvement to a suspension, but it doesn't look like they provide any lift.

No they don't, use them with a lift. The key is articulation. That was one big problem with leaf springs. Now these revolvers change everything.

Well, I just brought it home, so, this will be my "before" pic. It's been sitting outside, and hasn't been run in about a year, so the first thing to do will be to give it a good cleaning, and replace all the fluids. Should be a fun little project, and a good Desert Bar cruiser.

The neat thing about a YJ is they are very easy to lift. In a TJ (beyond a budget boost 2" lift) its a little more complicated.
Your new jeep looks clean.
You will have major fun with it.
Most run a 3" susp. lift with a 1" body lift and fit 33" tires perfectly. They do real well stock too.
I visit jeepsunlimited.com daily. Not as much drama as ***boat but they have thier fair share.

I've been trying to go onto the jeesunlimited site, but can't get it to come up.
Any suggestions on what type of lift to go with?
I'm waiting for a friend to come over and help me lift the hardtop off. It is just sitting in place right now, and there is a bimini under it. I think it looks a lot better with the top off, and it doesn't have air, so it should be more comfortable here in Havasu riding with the top off.

Our Unlimited has only the soft top. I passed on the hard top for the exact reasons you gave. Best top makes a Hard Top with sliding windows for your year. My kids want the windows off all the time so now I just leave them off and bought a cab only cover.
Brand of lift for a YJ? That will take some poking around on JU. Why the site is not working is a ?
They indeed are having some issues right now. Out of all the forums I have tried re: jeeps I like JU the best.
Pirate 4x4 is in a world of its own. Go there for the fun of it. Pirate 4x4 forums (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/)
Go to Jeep tech for newbies or they will burn you down elsewhere in the reg tech section. Tough croud.

Talk to Dennis on the boards.
He just took at brand new(240 miles) Rubicon Extended Model and modified.
1. 6 full susp lift with new style long arms hidden up along the frame rails
2. 35 Inch tires
3. Full metal protection below
4. Sway Bar Disc.
5. Winch
I am sure I missed other fun stuff.
I think the parts were pretty close to $10K
I will have him post a pic if he is around.

2 inch leaf spring kit
1 inch body lift
33 inch tires on 8 inch wide wheels.
If you go with a 3 inch kit you do not have to do the body 1inch body lift.
