Im working on putting together a site that will be lots of boat pics when things dont go right. launch ramp action, trailering issues, accidents, etc, etc. I have several from this site, collected from the net and some of my own, but i would like more. It would also be great if you have the story behind it. Its not to poke fun at anyone (maybe a little) but to be more on the lines of boating safety. even the best prepared boater can run into problems.
if your unsure how to post them here feel free to email me at easy.pay@verizon.net
thanks for your time i appreciate it.

Damn I should have taken the picture of a tournament boat in Needles this weekend. He leared the hard way that the water level decreases at night. He pulled in to the lagoon in the marina. We water drained completly out of the lagoon and his boat was sitting high and dry on the hillside.

Can you elaborate a bit on the story? Were you pitched because the boat hit the rocks or the boat hit the rocks on "autopilot" after you were pitched? Either way, looks like a bad one!

This is some funny shat!!! I towed that same friggin boat yesterday for almost an hour. I was flagged down and got some sob story from a lady who was the only one on the boat saying she had been stranded for three days in the bushes where I found her with her little dog. She was the only one on the boat and after the hour I asked her where the hell she needed to go and she just said, " I don't know.... I'm good here just untie me and I will float from here. I ended up flagging down a sheriff cause I felt bad for her but I guess I know the story now. S.O.B. :crossx: :crossx: :crossx:

I was pitched out by a swell on the outside of the breakwater. Actually both my friend and I were pitched out at the same time. Then the boat kept running and it hit rocks all by itself! I had the safety lanyard hooked to my shorts but it ripped my belt loop off! The uscg officers that showed up thought at first we might have hit a migrating whale! The insurance adjuster didn't think so and concluded that it was just a large wave from a passing ship! Either way I have been boating in this part of the world my whole life and never had anything like this happen before. I had to put the boat back on the trailer with a dislocated shoulder, Or else the uscg would have fined me for the fuel spilling out of the boat! They gave me 4 hours to do it! and I barely got it in time!

Maybe the delta has homeless boaters who float around (or a friendly tow) till they find each other then raft-up together to share resources........untill a fight breaks out! The navigator is always pissed at the maintenance guys for drinking on the job, or is it the other way around?

Thanks for the info. I was out on Sunday and was realizing how easy this could happen. My boat has the kill switches...... but no lanyard when we bought it. This is the motivation I need to get the other half done so the damn things work!

Get yourself some good quality offshore life vests with the whistles and the lights on them. I had to swim my self and my buddy back from an 1/8 mile or so off shore. We were finally picked up about 10 yards from the breakwater by a boat that saw the the accident from the inside of the breakwater. Without the vests we had on we would have both persished. By the time the boat got to us I was so tired I couldn't even pull my self into his boat. I still have the vest. I keep it to remind me of what could have been!!! Make sure you get those safety switches fixed pronto.

Anyone remember this story:
http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/homepage/article_945840.php
LONG BEACH – A Newport Beach man was found clinging to a buoy a mile outside Los Angeles Harbor on Thursday, hours after his unoccupied yacht ran aground at Santa Catalina Island, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
Craig McCabe, 59, told family members that he fell off his 50-foot powerboat Heather about 9 a.m. and swam to the buoy, where he held on for more than five hours in 58-degree water. He was wearing only pants and a T-shirt, Coast Guard Lt. Tony Migliorini said.

That pic reminds me of all of the boats that started appearing in 03-04 on Lake Mead as the water started to get so low. I remember seeing one on the island in front of Hemmenway that had 88 stickers on it. The outdrive had been removed and a piece of ply screw over the hole with silicone to seal it. Obviously, someone had removed everything then towed it out there and pulled the plug. I wondered if the sheriff or insurance companies could still come after the former owner.

this was my 1978 kurtis 500 t deck runner bottom, after a 100+mph pass in front of echo lodge on may 17 2001, i went from being dead to revived on the beach to walking out of the hospital 3 hrs later, and i took the pictures the next day after it was pulled off the bottom. that what a fu#@ing expensive weekend
I can remember seeing that boat after the crash sitting in a driveway across from holiday harbor on the 95 at least it looked like it.

Obviously, someone had removed everything then towed it out there and pulled the plug. I wondered if the sheriff or insurance companies could still come after the former owner.
The statute of limitation on insurance fraud starts from the day that the claim is "found to be fraud". I can't remember exactly how long the statute is but it starts ticking from the day that the investigation deems fraud occurred. So yes, the insurance companies would be able to go after them.

The Elsinore ramp is so slick it seems like it's crisco coated. I was at Elsinore three weeks ago.. a guy in an older flatbottom jet was being pulled out by his buddy in a Ram 4x2 dually. I watched as the dually was spinning tires, roosting the boat, and sliding back into the water a a good clip. When the entire rear bumper was under and still working it's way South I got the driver to stop spinning them so we could jump in the bed. That, and first gear, finally got the truck out before it backed all the way to the bottom. I can see how the motor home was buried even if the driver wasn't in reverse...

Im starting to see a few trends.
Some people dont air out the engine compartments before starting.... KABLOOM!!!!
Fountain sells boats to j@ck@sses with too much money that dont know how to drive boats....
People seem to think they need to take all the trailer straps off BEFORE getting the boat all the way into the water.?.?.? Just the rear straps peeps!

My fathers boat siting Highway 40 near Ludlow. Trailer failed (spindle) and pitched their Durango into the median on its lid.
Parents walked away from this with just cuts from glass. Tow trucks were there in 45 min and a car full of RN's drove by and adminstered aid 5 min after it happened. The tow truck guys had that boat back on the trailer and on a single flatbed heading for barstow in less than an hour. Pops was amazed.
I picked them up in Barstow about 3 hrs after it happened at the tow yard. What a mess.
Boat is fine after G&S in Corona fixed it up. Its sitting on a new Trail rite trailer now.

This is a classic photo... But not a mishap. This boat never touched the ground. They pulled the boat on a dolly trailer which was chained to the regular trailer and then attached a car chute to the boat and ran it down the fwy for the photo. Had some airbrush work done (notice they erased the drive shaft) and sold photos of this at the drags with the phrase "Shit Happens" Great poster.
Here is the boat after they added the capsule.

Glad you stayed clear of that one. Stuff like that takes prisoners.
My parents standing there in the picture. That boat had 2 trips on a new gelcoat and it was just the bottom that was scarfed up. The boat was almost 50 yards down the 40 from the where the Durango came to a stop.
What was real funny was we sat in Tommy's eating with both of them peppered with glass cuts. People kept asking what happened. They were hungry....I would not have eaten for a week.

Did someone really pull the plug on this or did the owner forget to put it in? I lost one of the rubber type plugs in a 19 ft glastron about 10 yrs ago. We stopped to bait up our fishin polls and my buddy noticed water starting to come up from under the engine cover. The bilge had flooded completely. I started the engine, but couldn't get the boat to plane out. So I jumped in and
plugged it with an old glove. The water at the time was about 38 degrees. Took me about a week to thaw out.

Yeah, that was cool. The pilot and passenger were out and OK. We saw the whole thing. There was a jet boat trying to get it out too, but he failed to squirt it. Between the two though, they got the plane pushed into shallower water, which helped when it finally sank....after burning to the waterline.
